$100 Knockoff vs $550 Stihl Chainsaw? Let's Settle This! Cutting Speed, Horsepower, Cold Start, RPM

Let’s settle this debate! Genuine Stihl vs a couple of knock offs. Chainsaws compared for weight, fuel efficiency, pulling force to start the saw, cold temperature starting performance, torque, no load sprocket speed, cutting speed on manufactured log, cutting speed with 5 pounds of weight on the bar, cutting speed through hardwood. I purchased all of the gasoline / petrol chainsaws and supplies used to test the chainsaws to ensure an unbiased review. So, thank you for supporting the channel!

  1. Obviously isn't going to replace my Stihl saws…but for $100 there are times where having a beater saw around that is decent has a great deal of appeal.

  2. Was just looking at getting a D real chainsaw I only got one tree I need to chop down and I don’t need to spend another 500 bucks on a nice one

  3. Got an idea for a video….I am a "car guy"… I enjoy working on and rebuilding cars… I love the old 60s and early 70s cars and trucks the best. I replaced my first quarter panel when I was 16…..I spent ours welding ,grinding. and more time welding and grinding….BUT about 5 years ago I was introduced to PANEL BOND by 3M……WOW…what a savings in time..I can now glue on quarter panels, rockers and door skins…. I have never had one fail or crack in the time I have been using this product…P.S." I am not a professional mechanic or body man," I am a 35+year meat cutter. Any ways….there are some products I would enjoy seeing tested… 3M Panel Bond, Polymix metal bond, SEM bonding adhesive, Evercoat bonding adhesive and you could ad in J.B Weld, Gorilla Glue and some Loc Tite products in there as well… Thanks

  4. I have a 100 dollar chinese saw I use occasionally and it still runs. If you don't use it that much it's the better option.

  5. Just for fun it'd be neat to see if you can tune the saws as well, I bought one of those chinese saws. They're notoriously bad at tuning them, it may have made a slight difference. I doubt it would've compensated for Stihl's domination though.

  6. I have an MS660 knock off…for $250 it will blow away that little ms291 for half the money…can run a 30" bar with ease. buy a bigger saw that cost less than the stihl and compare them

  7. I have ADD,, You sir, are loaded with ADHD.
the speed with how you talk, makes it for me, impossible to listen longer than 15 secounds.
sorry, skipped like other vids way to the end for the results..
as the vid is killing my ears and brain.

  8. tell me how this mans has better chainsaw technique then most youtubers who do chainsawing

  9. Great video. Now, you can look at it this way…spend the money on a Stihl, or buy a cheap saw, get frustrated with it, throw it into the garbage and then buy a Stihl. It’s cheaper to do it right the first time.

I have a Stihl MS260 that’s been used every other day for the last 15 years. Went through a couple chains already but am still on the original spark plug. Still runs like new.

  10. I bought a Chinese saw in 2008 which looks eerily similar to the one tested. It has been used on average ~5 times per year and on occasions done some hard work cutting up large trees. I sharpen the chain every 2-3 uses and have changed the chain a couple of times with eBay specials. The saw has never failed and performed flawlessly. It's looking a bit sad/tired these days! Last weekend my neighbour asked me to cut down a tree and the saw (unused for more than a year with old fuel in the tank) started 3rd pull and did the job easily. I bought the saw for a camping trip and never expected it to last but boy has it exceeded every expectation. I know it is not a Stihl nor a 'professional' grade saw but for an occasional user they are great.

  11. is there a video testing those little handheld electric chainsaw things? seems like they wouldnt do a whole lot with a single lithium battery and like a 6 in bar

  12. Great testing, as usual. Your thorough tests have set the “bar” very high for real world accurate ratings of new tools! Thank you.

  13. Been researching some wheel barrows. Haven't found any very good reviews. Would love to see a comparison of the brands to see which is strongest

  14. One other consideration is that Stihl has dealers who stock parts and can fix their products. No idea where you would take a Topteng for repair

  15. We as Americans love cheap stuff, even when it's junk. It's no surprise the Stihl came out on top, but the real question should be. How many junk saws does one have to buy, to equal one Stihl?

If you do minor limb trimming once a year, any cheapo saw would do. If you are doing anything more, you need a good saw.

  16. could be a lot of testing in bandsaw blades, router bits, table and circular saw blades too. sanding belts even. lots of woodworking stuff, that without question, are disposable. yep, i'm a carpenter.
