Busy parents with two young kids are struggling in their 1970s house with a choppy floor plan. She convinced him to buy the property because it’s three doors down from his childhood home, but the nostalgia quickly wore off when he realized how much work needed to be done. While she’s convinced it’s their forever home, he’s ready to sell and find a suburban new build with extra space.

When a house no longer feels like home, homeowners are left with a big financial and emotional question: renovate or sell it? Love It or List It helps fed-up homeowners decide. In each hour-long episode Realtor David Visentin and designer Hilary Farr compete for the homeowners’ final decision to stay or go. David’s insider perspective on the real estate market helps target listings to prospective buyers, but Hilary is determined to show homeowners that, within their budget, she can transform their worn-out house into a castle they can love. If the owners decide to list it, Hilary’s hard work adds to the home’s resale value. It’s a tough decision either way. Which choice would you make?

  1. “Some people like” popcorn ceilings. No, nobody likes popcorn ceilings. Plus, some can be a health hazard.

  2. The new house has no curb appeal by comparison, and the main floor doesn't hold a candle to Hilary's reno in their place.

  3. They're so fuckin spoiled. "Lets keep the stupid back stairs because of our dumb kids, and not have any extra space that we wanted." okay, great logic.

  4. America is crazy…room after room…it's really never enough there lol. But both of the ladies seem to have such snobbish attitudes…no amount of rooms will fix that.

  5. They were always going to list no matter what. I’m just wondering why they sabotaged selling it for more.

  6. Why isn’t anyone talking about the fact that the Love It house needs a new roof? And why do they need so many bedrooms? They want four, plus two guest spaces, plus an office? Even if you assume that the office doubles as a guest room, that’s still 6 sleeping spaces for a household of 4. So pretentious!

  7. That was the right decision. Although Hilary did the amazing reno that she is known for, the other house has the space the want.

  8. Ummm…they're not putting money in their pocket. Between closing costs buying and selling, I'm guessing they would just about break even.

  9. Well I love what Hillary has done as always. I would’ve gotten rid of the second staircase and finally I wouldn’t go with the decision they went with but the guy seemed pretty set on resale since the beginning.

  10. I agree that the stairs should stay…however the new Hillary concept looks more cozy than the new house they are planing to move to…I guess it s all about space ????

  11. Getting rid of those back stairs is genius and would have made such a difference in the overall use of the home. Kids grow up and teens love private hangouts!!!
