3 Oddly Specific Kitchen Gadgets You Will Actually Use!

Today I’m testing out 3 kitchen gadgets made for oddly specific tasks, but they’re functional enough that most people might actually use them.

Note – in case you were wondering: The Oxo packaging reads “SoftWorks,” while the Amazon listing reads “Good Grips.” 🤷‍♂️

  1. RE: Watermelon Knife: I was going to suggest how well the Cutco 9-in Carver works for cutting watermelons…. But then I realized it's a $150 knife (Thank goodness my mom gave me one from her old set….) Never mind! Plus Kuhn Rikon is a quality brand and I like other people's tips on what other items it is good for: cutting other hard vegetables, cutting cakes, etc.

  2. When the microwave stops, the waves are still bouncing around inside. The reason the microwave beeps, is to tell you to wait eight seconds for the waves to stop bouncing and be absorbed by the food, then it’s safe to open the door, otherwise you absorb them instead. Re-read your manual.

  3. Cookie presses are the sh*z!! I love them for making Christmas Spritz cookies! Though your dough looks a bit too firm/dry for it, which is why it's so hard to push down. It should be much easier to depress. And you cooked them a little too long, they shouldn't be that dark…at least that's now how we make them.

  4. To be honest all 3 gadgets are things people create in hopes to sell stuff that is not needed. One must eat a lot of watermelon to buy a special knife.
The egg gadget is useless except perhaps for a college student. But one can use any plate or saucer to cook microwave eggs.
I have had a cookie press I got from clearance sales over 30 years ago. It worked just as well as this OXO press and children liked to use it during holiday times.
I love all kinds of kitchen gadgets, but have come to a resolution that we are sold a lot of pure trash to fill kitchen drawers with something we use once or twice and after that it is only space taking clutter. That is manifested by James's bone yard.😊 I am anyhow happy he tests these gadgets, it gives an idea if they could be useful for my use. This time I am not falling for a single one.

  5. Why would one buy a "special" knife for just watermelon? I have 3 different sets of knives, Cutco, Henkels and cheapo set. They all have long serrated bread knives that work just as well as this watermelon knife. Knives need to be sharpened regularly, if not, they do not cut well. I wonder how that watermelon knife is sharpened? When were the other knives sharpened to be in a condition that the brand new one was?🙂

  6. The watermelon knife is good not because of the sharpness but because of the thinness. The chefs knives got stuck because they taper out at the spine.

  7. That watermelon knife is the bomb!
Every serated knife I've ever used seemed to slice at an angle…. Not so much with this one??? Could it be the holes in the blade?
    What do y'all think?
Looks like an excellent bread knife…. I want one!
Thx for a great video 🧡

  8. if u have any coffee drinkers or just have large ceramic coffee cups that are fairly wide, they will cook an egg just as well. we have a couple and the eggs fit the plain lenders bagels that my cousin buys all the time. just a little info so u dont need to buy a gadget if you dont have too.

  9. If your butter needs a machete to saw through it, it may not be butter.

  10. The way you had your free hand on the watermelon was unsafe. Curl you fingertips and have your knuckles rest on the watermelon.

  11. If the cheese and ham don’t have a hole then why bother

    Use a normal ceramic bowl

  12. The watermelon knife is also good for bread, meat, fruits, squash, lots of applications where serrated can be used

  13. The Beggel seems pointless. Put the egg in a regular bowl, mix it and microwave. It'll fit in a bagel just the same. The cookie press is fun at Christmas, my family has been used one for for decades.

  14. As a Canadian, I find it charming that the US thinks we have our own bacon. In Canada we call it ‘back bacon’ which, as a city kid, I’ve assumed is referring to where on the pig the meat is harvested – a farmer or butcher please correct my assumption if it’s wrong

  15. First thing I thought after hearing the word Beggel: "Oh, Britta's in this?"

  16. if you eat a lot of water melon the knife was cool but a bread knife works pretty good as well
