  1. I love my ice cream “ melty”???? too????
I recently donated half of my Pyrex glass bowls/baking dishes to my daughter in law. I thought, what if I need one(even though I kept only the ones I use) but I told myself, just borrow it!
This was a Confirmation video, thank you.

  2. Thanks Dawn for another great video. My family of 4, we are extremely minimal. We have free space in our wardrobe, linen closet, kitchen cupboards. It is a great way to live. It only takes me about 1 hour to completely clean our 4 bedroom house. That’s everything including bathroom. My young children are learning from us but the advertising still gets to them sometimes. We’ve been minimal for about 5 years, there is only 1 thing in all that time I regret decluttering. It was a Christmas craft that my eldest made in kindy. After a few years I thought I’d let it go. But then his younger brother made the same craft in kindy and I wish I’d had them both together. Solution – I got my eldest to make another. Not exactly the same but still from a snapshot of his childhood and a lesson learnt by me that it’s ok to hold onto a few sentimental items that our kids have made. It’s all a learning process. But the amount of things I have decluttered and never thought of again, and also stopped buying so much, it’s all so worth it. ????

  3. I totally agree with you but I do have an ice cream scoop bc hard ice cream can bend regular spoons. But it totally agree with this concept. The only think I have left go of that I regret is my salad spinner. Still have not replaced for $20 but I made do without it.

  4. Rocky Road is my favorite! Sometimes I even make it from TJs vanilla, toasted pecans, and mini marshmallows. Hard ice cream tops melted for me!

  5. When I seen the title I thought of Tom playing the part and couldn't wait to click on it. Can't lie I was a little disappointed but it was a great video. Thanks for all you do.

  6. Favorite flavor ice cream is mint chocolate chip and its best when the outter edge begins to melt so its super creamy.

  7. Vermont Python and ice cream soup (the consistency of soft serve such as a Wendy's frosty).

  8. What you say makes so much sense, why didn't I think of that? This was perfect timing for me as I'm going to be selling my house and moving into a smaller apartment. Thanks again Dawn.

  9. Love this. And yes as I get I older I want less stuff to manage. And I really appreciate your comment about this is the safest time to be living. So many times in the past few years I have been tempted to really “prep” and while I have a few extra things on a separate shelf the thought of prepping for 2 years, one year even 6 months totally overwhelmed and suffocated me. Thank you and God bless you for being the voice of calm and reason and reminding me where to put my trust.

  10. That $100 budget set aside for repurchasing:
That's an Oopsy Insurance Policy, straight and simple. This will definitely allay most people's fear of letting an item past the What-If insecurity.

I have an ongoing struggle with toasters.
I like toast, but I don't NEED toast. If there's no toast, I don't miss it, I don't crave it, I don't even think about it.
Toast is mostly a butter-delivery-system for me, but I don't require it in any form.
I didn't have a toaster for years. I ended up with one I got from a neighbor moving out, but it wasn't a week and I gave it to someone at work. More years passed. I finally bought one and have used it for maybe 5 months? But it's pretty much a single-use item, and though it works well (toasts bread and bagels perfectly), it is an uneasy relationship; I need it to do more, to earn its displacement of space on the miniscule counter I have.
So I am auditioning a well-discounter Breville toaster oven. I tried to get a microwave that bakes and toasts, but there's none so far offered that does that satisfactorily. I do miss and crave crunch, which microwaves don't do without carbonizing solid.
If the Breville works out, the toaster goes; if not, the Breville gets returned and I'll finally embrace the toaster. Mostly.
That's not to say I may purchase a better toaster oven in the future; I believe in upgrading.

    My favorite saying:
    "Clutter is deferred decisions"

  11. I eat keto ice cream and I always put it in microwave for about 30 seconds to melt it somewhat. I love it halfway melted! Another great video, Dawn! ????

  12. I feel like I’m getting Minimal Mom Certified! I totally struggle with “what if I need this syndrome”. What you say is SO true!!

My home is doing great! Once I get my dishes problem resolved, realistic and functional, I feel like I will be “certified”.

Gonna keep watching!! You are my dishes and laundry body double!!

    Thank you!

  13. My sister has a big family they actually just cut the ice cream into equal pieces… ????

  14. There are a lot of people going through unplanned and planned upheaval every day.
We're having a lot of natural upheavals imposed on us right now: blizzards, floods, landslides, tornadoes, train derailments, chemical pollutants, to name a few. Stuff happens.
Some of us also are faced with other issues that have us leaving our homes: domestic abuse, divorce/breakups, long-distance relocation for employment or medical/family reasons, severe loss of income, etc. Stuff happens; sometimes sudden, sometimes planned.

We can't always bring our possessions with us: no time to pack, too expensive to ship/haul, no info about the new space's dimensions/layout, among other factors.
I've moved into a new space with just what I'm backpacking.
I once moved West Coast to East Coast to West Coast in a single year.
I've started from scratch or near scratch many times. Frankly, while being a challenge, it can be an enjoyable process.

That coast-to-coast-to-coast move meant being very intentional about what to take, and I still left things behind ACCIDENTALLY that still break my heart. But I did find I can get by and that thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets, and craigslist were my friends. I learned that very few bits of furniture are important enough to ship; just repurchase on arrival. There are ways to make do until you can afford better. And if you have time, you can sell what you can't take with you.

There's something exciting about building a new home from scratch. In the process, you may find new things to treasure, things you treasure MORE than the 'okay' things they are replacing.
And the fact is, we all have more money and resources than our fears will allow us to even imagine. A little patience, and all good things will come to us. We just have to remember we don't have to accept EVERY good thing. Refuse some, make others audition, and accept only the most proven essentials or beloved.

There's a difference between items you fancy, that you 'like', and the things you cherish. Be ready to let go of the things you only like or enjoy. And remember to scrutinize even the things you cherish; better to curate those things, and anything let go of that you cherish[ed] you can just find a good/deserving home for them.

I used to do street fairs. One of the things I enjoyed about it was showing up with a box or two of things I might need to set up or dress my 'spot', then seeing what resources were available when I got there. It pushes your creativity and imagination. I once made a booth out of two folding tables the event provided me, set on END (each table's legs poking toward the other table's legs) covered in 3yd-long upholstery fabric I had brought with me. Kept the sun off me all day.

Thing is, you can get by. Give yourself some credit. If you view these as challenges you can ace, you'll surprise yourself and you'll enjoy it. I once bought a large vinyl camera bag for about $2 at the thrift store which worked perfectly as a diaper bag for my daughter, carrying everything she needed for a day out, but a little smaller and less 'floofy' than a regular diaper bag.

Always expand your view of a thing and read it as how it functions, not as it's advertised or traditionally-interpreted.
I swear, being poor really trained me for this; we never once owned an ice cream scoop.

  15. I accidentally decluttered my late Mother’s jewelry. I had it “hidden” in a pair of old boots when we went on vacation and completely forgot about it. A year or so later I got on a declutter binge and out went the old boots ! Ack!!! Any advice on how to get over the guilt of losing these sentimental and valuable items. Now I freeze up when I try to get rid of stuff. I really do want a simpler life. Thanks for your channel.

  16. Guess what I'm going to get rid of today —- my ice cream scoop as it's barely ever used ! I've been contemplating decluttering it for some time but always found a reason to keep it every time I saw it in the drawer. Sometimes we are so silly. I prefer the ice cream a little soft as well and my favorite flavour is Moose Droppings.
