  1. I started to go second hand with my clothing when I could and can safely say I have found GREAT pieces for under £5 (some with the tags still on) and the most expensive item being a vintage suede leather jacket for £40 in the charity shops here in the UK

  2. Viscose and rayon are plant materials.. made out of wood or bamboo, and feel really soft like silk

  3. As someone who lives in a rural area, there aren't many thrift stores. And the ones there are you have to be very diligent about checking for cockroaches, bed bugs, or smelling items for smoke ???? really takes the fun out of it sometimes

  4. I made 2023 my year of no new clothing purchases – buuuuut I realized I didn't want to thrift bras and undies (and I just stopped breastfeeding, so I need all new bras). So I made myself the loophole that if I need something new, I have to buy from a locally owned small business. That fortunately gives me lots of options in my town, and I can still feel better about my carbon footprint and investing in my community, and I'm likely investing in a quality piece that will last way longer.

  5. Where can I find such huge thrift stores in UK. We only have tiny charity shops with not much in them

  6. this video and the comment section is just a diamond mine of hacks. thank you thesorrygirls and community!

  7. Had the same challenge for myself for years now! What I find hard to find is warm winter jackets, good quality shoes, and jeans. Underwear I buy in normal stores though. I will definitely start going to the men's section for jeans! Haven't thought of that before even though I've gone there fore T-shirts and sweaters, which I often find being of better quality than from the women's section. Only thing is that I feel bad about taking the few men's wear items there is, and same goes for buying plus size clothes to diy, as there usually isn't as much there as in the regular women's section.

  8. This isn’t a tip, but something to consider: If your taking items and adjusting them, make them reversible or maybe don’t go beyond adjusting 1 size difference. it can be very hard to find options for larger bodies. It is common for people to take large thrifted items and make adjustments so they fit a much smaller body (in fact I think I’ve seen that on this channel, though a long time ago). It is fun and can be cute, but if you do that, and they are irreversible changes, you are only further narrowing the options for those with bigger bodies.

  9. If your thrift shop has some type of sale or discount – go right AFTER it is over. At least my favorite shop is doing things like "all clothes 1 Euro" to make room for new items in that department. When I come the next day things are more expensive of course, but there is so much new stuff. And everything is still well organized too.

  10. The mens section is only oversized when you don’t have huge curves ???? still impossible to find anything that fits me that doesn’t look like pjs because my boobs and hips are no joke.
I don’t buy clothes in general anyway tbh other than underwear and socks when they need replacing which I get when I’m grocery shopping ???? Love secondhand shops for home decor though. Wish there were more places like that in my area!

  11. More tips:
Wear a tight t-shirt AND a top layer that has a zipper or buttons (a sweater or a jumper). This way you don't have to pull clothing over your head every time you want to try something and you will be able to try most things without taking the t-shirt off.
Wear shoes that are easy to take off / put on.
If you have patience, check out all sections, including large sizes. I found some of my favourite clothes in the large size section because they were simply oversized and they were placed in a wrong section.
If you find something from a good brand and you might love the brand more than the piece itself, try imagining that piece was by a brand you don't really like. Do you still like the piece?
