4 Levels of Potato Salad: Amateur to Food Scientist | Epicurious

We challenged chefs of three different skill levels – amateur Emily, home cook Julie, and professional chef Joe Pace from the Institute of Culinary Education – to whip us up a fresh batch of potato salad. After each of them had presented their creation, we asked food scientist Rose to review their work. Which dish looks most delish?

  1. Watching Julie makes me confident I may be a level 2 chef I’m no Gordon Ramsay but im also no “use everything canned and boxed and Jarred (nothing wrong with it) but what she says/does I do the same! I love food and I take time with 95% of my ingredients!

  4. I wanna know what the hell was the level 3 dude making? 'Cuz this ain't a potato salad. Yes, I know – everyone has their own recipe but holy hell, that looks disguisting.

  8. I like this series but…how do three recipes add up to "4 levels"? Makes no sense. Also…it would 1000x better if all three recipes were sampled by the three chefs for taste comparison. Missed opportunity. Every time, each of the chefs likes their own cooking and learns nothing.

  12. I'd omit the apple in the level 3 version. I hate fruit in what should be a savory dish.

  13. 3:43. "We're going to let these babies boil to 430 …" Geez, I just heard salt increased the boiling temperature, but I didn't know it was THAT much.
