  2. Add me to the list of Benchmark rule aficionados. I have Starrett and Shinwa rules, but added a couple of the Benchmarks when TayTools ran a special. I now seem to reach for these Benchmark rules everytime. My new favorites. I don't have the Diamond-plate mats, but I did place a mat at my workbench and it is wonderful to stand on. Thanks.

  3. One point about the rule: I hang mine on a screw head inside the tool cupboard door – easy to find and not taking up space. Also they can be used for scribing arcs but these black ones have no holes; maybe some feedback to the manufacturer is appropriate.

  4. I've had a first model TRA1 router from the first couple of production runs for around -25- years now and it still works fine. The first model did not have the through the table adjustment, you just had to reach under and wind the knob. I currently have 6 Triton routers, 2 of each size. Triton was an Australian company when the routers were designed and pretty much everything they made was well designed and built within the limits of available technology (I loved the 18volt drill but it had NiCad batteries). Due to some corporate shenanigans Triton has been resold several times, production has moved to Asia and it seems there have been a few rough spots in the production – there were a few years when the speed control failed after a while, but that seems to have been fixed. They have also added several Asian knockoff tools to the line, some are good like the bench top spindle/belt sander, others are pretty meh like the doweler

  5. Back in high school, I took a physics class that didn't allow calculators in the 1st semester. We had to learn how to use old-fashioned slide rules. I mention that because one of the key concepts in using them is the idea of "significant figures". "Sig figs" are the number of digits in a given value or a measurement, necessary to decide the accuracy and precision of measurement.

I mention this because in the case of using a 1/16" rule, you can divide the 1/16 by eye in half giving you the 1/32. The precision of the Mark 1 eyeball is about +/- 1/10 of the division. So if you use a marking knife to measure out the dimension, you can get to within +/- 0.006 of that 1/32. which is more than good enough for all but the most anal-retentive woodworkers.

BTW, shame on you for running electrical wiring under your floor mats. You better hope the fire marshal never stops by for a visit, or worse the wires fray and start a fire.

  6. Found this channel a while back and this must be one of the best channels for woodworkers. Covering every topic in woodworking in such detail! Im no woodworker but mr Nubs should definately write a few woodworking books! Bless you!

  7. @stumpy
Thanks for sharing. I too have used Iso Tunes for a while. I truly love that they are an American company and only about 30 min from my house 🙂 in Indiana.

Pro tip, instead of having more than one set of bluetooth headphones I use an over the ear version with a pair of 3M ear muffs. This lets me 1) hear enough to be safe, 2) still hear my music and 3) not have to constantly change headphones back and forth. Probably number 3 is the number one reason for this set up. Huge time saver for me at least.

  8. I have this router for a very long time. Half of it it was broken because….no spare parts… i bought is because all of it nifty tech, but is is build mediocre……

  9. I really like the Triton router – I have had mine for 3 years or so, though it is almost permanently mounted in my home-made router table. A superb router.

  10. One day Americans will realise metric is the superior measurement system instead of 8ths, 16ths or 32nds. Signed the rest of the World

  11. Pete Kershaw was a customer of my dad's rental yard when I was a kid. I don't have them any more, but the locking knife he was selling at the time was outstanding. This was in the early 80's if I remember correctly.

  12. I have had one of the triton routers for 10 years. They are brilliant. You also missed the quick attachment for the router table and the replaceable base plates which comes in super handy. Love that router so much.

  13. Thanks James for the great products you shared with us. Stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.

  14. The Defenders over the ear are great, especially with the optional auxiliary. I ended up sticking with 3M because they were on a big sale, now I wish I waited for your code for ISOTunes!

  15. I've had 2 of those triton routers for about 15 years. Be aware the speed controllers go on them. They are feature rich but not durable. There are possibly less reliable and durable routers out there but all the quality name brand units are better. There is an Australian company that makes an adapter to turn a makita router into a side wind system like the triton for table work. There are just better options. I've got the powered dust helmet as well and they also fail.

  16. I have one of the Tritons in my router table for years. Very nice. I use the 2.5 hp model a lot for upright cuts.
