Beat the Icon: CRKT CEO vs Alternatives

Richard Rogers designed the slim and stylish CEO with CRKT, firmly establishing an entire genre: The Executive Knife. Can any of these contenders beat it? https://kcoti.com/40yfRJf

The CEO’s influence on the industry was both immediate and widespread. The success of this model is not only inspired other models inside CRKT’s own lineup, but the competition out there has also targeted this knife very clearly.

  1. I got obsessed with this knife for awhile. Bought 6 variations of it. It got my attention in high quality actions for knives but I would still consider it a beginner knife. Even as a major fan I know there's a better ceo out there.

  2. …and the predecessor to the CEO, the gentleman's shirt pocket knife: Shun's Higo-No Kami (5900). A true work of art.

  3. Only thing on the list I own is the MKM Flame Light in olive wood handles, which I love. Looks great, excellent fit and finish, and it's build is perfect. The only other I have that would fit this category would be the Civivi Clavi, which is nice, but I'm not a huge fan of front flippers. Though not in this category, my Bugout 535 with the aluminum handles has what I feel is a gentlemanly vibe. I've been eyeing the Kwaiken Air for a while, especially the KC exclusive, and just ordered it since I have (had) some KC points to burn.

  4. Really don't know why companies do an expensive knife and then put a wire clip on…

My HO is that those clips look like a afterthought and also they feel very cheap.

  5. Too bad most are flippers. Don’t like them. The reason I never got an urban trapper was that. The only flipper I would consider is the Ken Onion bc of the assist.

  6. This is one of my favorite episodes as I have several in the list. Always looking for the lefty friendly options. The one that ends up in my pocket most days is the blue micro. I didn’t realize how much I would like that sheep’s foot blade!

  7. Blade Designers today seem to have Forgotten about making the the Finger Stops more Prominent.
Knives should Always be User Friendly.

  8. Went from CEO to Ki-V Plus, and I'm very satisfied. Well done alternative options. It was the executive knives that really dug me into the rabbit hole. Cheers. ????

  9. Instead of the Buck Decatur I would think the Buck Cavalier more closely resembles the CEO

  10. I have a CEO Flipper. Really like the look. Not so much in hand. That flat "pill crusher" bottom digs into my hand.

  11. DCA might be surprised to learn how many CEOs are in fact crushing pills on a regular basis

  12. My exec carry, for years, was the Spyderco Chokwe. Perfect size. Till I saw the Al Mar Quicksilver! I've always loved the look of old melon slippies. The Quicksilver is a great looking bayonet/stiletto grind melon knife.
My grail is the Brad Zinker 4" Miscreant.

  13. I just bought a Boker few days ago, well, a Magnum Boker, the Brachyptera, yeah, never heard of it either. It's not a gentleman's knife, I've got a Mcusta for that. But it's a knife that doesn't looks too offensive when you put it on a table, it's techy and modern looking, black with a small red detail. But when you open it … yeah, things change a bit. It's a 440 B wharncliffe blade (everyone hates 440 steel, but Boker always worked with it, and without issues), kind of a reversed tanto, lovely G10 scales, deep carry clip, liner lock with thumstuds and a flipper too. I guess I wanted to check out what we were doing in Europe, to fight the cheap Asian folder invasion. For under 50 euros, honestly, it isn't far from my Tenacious or the even the Ripple. After a close inspection, the tolerances were very good, so was symmetry and finishing. Got myself a new EDC and my Ontario Rat can have some rest now, or maybe some customizing, she deserves it.

  14. Anyone else notice the Seis looks like The Scream when you show off the pocket clip? 10:14

I’ve always liked the CEO and I really like the Kaizen and the Kwaiken Air, but I was just tempted away by the Boker+ LRF. It’s different, but a really like the lines of it.

  15. The rockwall has become my go to user office knife. It’s very unobtrusive but is still useful.

  16. I've got that Kaizen, and it's actually a daily everday carry. My fullsize carry changes day-to-day(knife nerds have too many knives), but that Kaizen permanently sticks right next to my pens in my pocket. Having a nice simple blade on hand is nice, and it's as subtle as a letter opener!

EDIT: Neglected to mention that mine is indeed that Knifecenter exclusive one. My only gripe is how aggresive those scales are in the pocket, it needs some wear in before it gets smooth in/out of pocket.

  17. Boker is the most disappointing company when it comes to ambidexterous design. Virtually all their knives are right biased pocket clips. it would be so easy to make the pocket clip reversible to include us lefties. No leftie love with Boker though.

  18. One thing with the original is that it's extremely annoying to sharpen because the thumbstud gets in the way and it's a T5 with ret locktite
