Ingredients list:
For the Bao Buns
300g plain flour
1 heaped tsp fast action yeast
1tsp baking powder
1tsp sugar
85ml milk
85ml water
Sesame seeds to top (optional)
Oil for brushing

For the Big Mac
500g ground beef, season with salt and pepper
3tbsp burger sauce
1/2 onion, diced (1 heaped tsp for the sauce)
1 medium gherkin chopped thinly (1 heaped tsp diced for the sauce)
1 slice cheese
Handful fresh lettuce, chopped

  1. Every time Barry puts flour on his surface I scream inside. He is increasing the flour content by a lot. Probably too much. It looked as though he doubled his flour content for this recipe. Completely unnecessary. It amazes me that his recipes actually work sometimes.

  3. That's nothing like a Big Mac, it has meat in it. A Big Mac is two circles of beef-flavoured paper.

  4. I have made bao before, and they turned out well.
    We had a 2 pack of hoisin duck burgers so I made 4 bao that I cooked unfolded and used 2 with each burger they were delicious.
    The rest of the bao were folded as usual and they froze really well. When you defrost them you just steam them for a few minutes and they're just like freshly cooked.

    Maybe you could do a Crepe pizza !

  6. Hybrid food, have you heard of the pizza burger? Two medium pizzas as the buns burger meat in the middle and toppings. Or I've done a filet o' fish style wrap before. Basically 3 fish fingers, tartare sauce and a bit of cheese in a wrap, although I often add sun dried tomatoes for extra punch, all wrapped up in a warm tortilla, yum.
