บ้านนาหมูม่น ต.นาดี อ.ด่านซ้าย จ.เลย หมู่บ้านกลางหุบเขาที่มีภูเขาล้อมรอบ ชาวบ้านที่นี่นอกจากจะใช้วิถีทำนาแบบดั้งเดิม คือการใช้นาดำแล้ว สิ่งที่น่าสนใจของที่นี่คือยังมีการใช้เครื่องมือโบราณขนาดใหญ่ ในการผันน้ำเข้านา ซึ่งชาวบ้านที่นี่เรียกว่า “พัดทดน้ำ” โดยทำจากไม้ไผ่ที่สามารถหาได้ในหมู่บ้าน เป็นภูมิปัญญาในการทำเกษตร เป็นมรดกตกทอดจากบรรพบุรุษจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น
พัดทดน้ำที่บ้านนาหมูม่นเหล่านี้จะถูกสร้างเรียงรายไว้ที่ริมน้ำหมัน สายน้ำสำคัญที่หล่อเลี้ยงชาวนา ในอดีตมีพัดทดน้ำเรียงรายนับร้อยตัว แต่ปัจจุบันมีเหลืออยู่จำนวน 13 ตัว ซึ่งพัดทดน้ำทุกตัวที่เห็น มีเจ้าของประจำ และยังใช้งานในการผันน้ำเข้าที่นา พัดทดน้ำที่นี่จะทำงาน 24 ชั่วโมง หากเสียชาวบ้านก็จะลงแขกมาช่วยกันซ่อม
พ่อพยุง สิงห์สถิตย์ ปราชญ์ชาวบ้านผู้เชี่ยวชาญเรื่องพัดทดน้ำ ได้บอกว่า “พัดทดน้ำ” กับวิถีความผูกพันของคนบ้านนาหมูม่น นั้นมีมานานกว่า 300 ปี ตัวแกเองมีพัดทดน้ำ 2 ตัว สืบทอดกันมาหลายชั่วอายุคนจนถึงปัจจุบันเหมือนกับคนอื่น ๆ ในหมู่บ้าน ที่ส่วนใหญ่ก็เป็นมรดกตกทอด เพราะพัดทดน้ำมีข้อดีช่วยให้ชาวบ้านมีน้ำทำมาหากิน ช่วยประหยัดค่าใช้จ่ายในการสูบน้ำ ช่วยเรื่องระบบนิเวศ และเป็นวิถีครอบครัวเป็นมรดกให้ลูกหลาน
ปัจจุบัน แม้จะมีเครื่องสูบน้ำเข้ามาทดแทนบ้าง แต่ “พัดทดน้ำ” ที่ยังคงมีอยู่สื่อถึงความผูกพันที่มีมาตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษ ชาวบ้านที่มีพัดทดน้ำต่างก็บอกว่า พัดคือลมหายใจ เป็นเสมือนชีวิตจิตใจของคนที่นี่ และพวกเขาจะส่งสิ่งมีค่านี้ให้ลูกหลานต่อไป

“ย่างกุ้ง” ประเทศเมียนมา เมืองขนาดใหญ่แห่งหนึ่งของอาเซียน ถึงแม้ปัจจุบันจะเติบโตไปมาก แต่ก็ยังมีมุมเก่า ๆ ที่หลงเหลืออยู่มากมาย โดยเฉพาะเรื่องการใช้ชีวิตบนตึกทั้งเก่าและใหม่ของที่นี่ มีความน่าสนใจ เพราะคนที่อาศัยอยู่ตามตึกเหล่านี้ มีวิถีชีวิตที่น่าสนใจอย่างหนึ่ง คือ “การใช้เชือกดึงสิ่งของ” ขึ้นลงไปห้องตัวเอง โดยคนที่เอาของมาแขวนจะสั่นกระดิ่งให้คนข้างบนได้รู้ เพื่อจะได้มาดึงของขึ้นไป วิธีแบบนี้ใช้มาเนิ่นนานเพื่อลดความเหนื่อยในการขนของขึ้นลง
นอกจากนี้เรื่องเก่า ๆ ที่เราได้เจอคือเรื่องการใช้ “ปิ่นโต” ใส่ของกินไปที่ทำงาน ซึ่งพบเจอได้ทั่วไปในเมืองย่างกุ้ง โดยปิ่นโตนั้นมีทั้งที่เป็นสแตนเลส และพลาสติก อาหารที่นำไปด้วยก็มักจะเป็นอาหารที่ทำเองจากบ้าน ทั้งนี้เพื่อประหยัดค่าใช้จ่ายในแต่ละวัน วิธีกินก็จะรวมตัวกันกินเพื่อจะได้แลกเปลี่ยนอาหารกันไปในตัว
อีกเรื่องที่เจอในเมืองนี้ คือ “ร้านตัดเย็บเสื้อผ้าสตรี” ที่มีอยู่มากมายใกล้ ๆ กับตลาดสก๊อต เสื้อผ้าที่ตัดมีทั้งชุดราตรี ชุดใส่ทั่วไป ซึ่งดูแล้วก็น่าแปลกใจที่ชุดบางชุดนั้นมีมูลค่าสูงมากแต่ก็ยังมาตัดกันที่ร้านเหล่านี้ พอถามลูกค้าที่มาตัดก็จะได้รับคำตอบว่าร้านต่าง ๆ ที่เราเห็นนั้น มีความเก่งในการตัดเย็บ สามารถทำได้พอดีตัว ดังนั้นจึงไม่จำเป็นที่จะต้องไปตัดในร้านที่หรู หรือซื้อชุดสำเร็จรูป ซึ่งสิ่งที่ลูกค้าเหล่านี้เล่ามาสะท้อนให้เห็นว่า ผู้หญิงเมียนมายังนิยมใส่เสื้อผ้าที่ตัดเย็บเอง จึงทำให้ร้านเหล่านี้ยังสามารถดำรงอยู่ได้

Perhaps one of the most stunning discoveries in relatively recent behavioral neuroscience is that there are Mirror Neurons in dispersed areas of the brain that interpret and mimic the emotional state of the people you’re around…
So if you’re around someone who appears stressed (think romantic partner, family member, friend, or coworkers), you’ll also experience an increase in cortisol, making you stressed too.
AND, the effect of ‘stress contagion’ has even been found to occur with complete strangers.
So, the takeout message here is to be really aware of who you’re spending time with, and also how you’re showing up when you’re with others – because your state could impact them more than you realize.

We tend to characterize perfectionism as a negative trait – something that blocks us from achieving our goals. But research has suggested that there are both healthy (adaptive) & unhealthy (maladaptive) types of perfectionism. Which type do you have?
Type 1: Unhealthy/Maladaptive/Neurotic Perfectionism 🚫
With Type 1, you might:
👉View perfection as the only route to personal acceptance
👉Set impossibly high standards
👉Beat yourself up when you don’t achieve goals
👉Procrastinate due to fear of failure
👉Fixate on mistakes & be filled with self-doubt.
Type 2: ‘Healthy’ Perfectionism ✅
With Type 2, you might:
👉Have a desire to strive for perfection
👉Have high personal standards
👉Work diligently to reach standards
👉Gain a huge amount of satisfaction from achieving goals
(Hamacheck, 1978; Enns, Cox, & Clara, 2002; Stoltz & Ashby, 2007)
I call Type 2 ‘striving for excellence’.
➡️ In my opinion, HERE’S THE MAIN DIFFERENCE:
While both types involve you setting high standards, with ‘healthy perfectionism’ you don’t beat yourself up when you ‘fail’ – instead, you focus on growth.

Have you ever had a really good day, and then one small ‘bad’ thing unexpectedly happens, and it’s like you completely forget all of the good, instead becoming completely consumed by the one negative thing? You just can’t stop thinking about it and replaying it over and over in your mind?
It’s called ‘FILTERING’, and it’s a form of negativity bias, which is our tendency not only to register negative stimuli quicker than positive stimuli (for example negative thoughts, emotions or traumatic events), but we also dwell on these events far longer.
This is why if you receive 10 pieces of feedback, with 9 being positive and 1 negative, you seem to place more weight on the negative one… am I right??
This then has a detrimental effect on your psychological state and how your feel, and ultimately, what you end up doing.
So, what can you do about it?
Here are four steps:
1️⃣ When you notice yourself focussing on something negative, take a moment to catch yourself out. Question the basis of your thoughts. Are you ignoring other information? Have you magnified the negative? Are you becoming unreasonably self-critical? Are you self-blaming?
2️⃣ Look at the evidence and what’s really happening. Try to be an objective as possible. What are the facts?
3️⃣ Ask yourself whether other people would have drawn the same conclusions as you did. Are you being too hard on yourself? (Hint: The answer is generally: “Yes…”).
4️⃣ Come up with counter arguments. What are other explanations for what’s happened? How can you see it from the perspective of growth?
Working through this process can help get you back into a more rational state.
