TRANSCRIPT

Hi there, I’m going to show you one of the most popular ways to tie a tie – using the Windsor knot – also known as the Double Windsor or the Full Windsor. Start with your collar up and the tie around your neck. If you are right handed, hold the wide end of the tie in your right hand and the narrow end of the tie in your left hand. Now, it is important to remember that the longer you make the wide end, the lower the tie will hang when you are finished. Basically, you want to line up your tie like this. If you remember this, you will save yourself a lot of time later on. Now cross each end over – wide end over the top – and leave about this much on the narrow end. That is about four inches or ten centimetres. With your left hand, take the wide end of the tie. Thread it through the back of this opening from behind. Thread it all the way through, like this. Now take the wide end of the tie, and with your left hand, wrap it all the way around the back like this. Switch hands. Notice here how the back of the tie is facing outward. Taking the wide end, now, in your right hand, thread it through the front of this opening. Alright! The hardest part is now done; the rest is easy! What you can see here is the inside of your knot. It should look a bit like a triangle. Put your left index finger on the knot, like this, and keep it there. With your other hand, wrap the wide end around the knot, from right to left – and then grab it from behind. Keep your index finger where it is. With your right hand, push the wide end through this opening again – from the back. Alright, here comes the punch-line! Your index finger has created a little tunnel. What you need to do now is thread the tie down through the tunnel. The last step now is to adjust and tighten it – alternating between the long end and the short end of the tie – gradually pulling the knot up – shaping it as you go – until the tie is just how you want it to be – a sharp, symmetrical, triangular knot. Pull your collar down – and bingo! – a full Windsor knot. Thank you for watching. I hope you found this helpful.

17 Foods You Can't Buy in Some Countries at Any Price

Every country has its customs and … a list of banned food ingredients. Yep. Things you can always find on the shelf of your local grocery store might be off limits somewhere else in the world. That’s not just a cultural phenomenon, but a matter of health and safety.

For example, in Europe and Great Britain, selling chicken treated with chlorine has been banned since 1997. Since 2010, chlorinated chicken has also been banned in Russia. Farmed salmon is banned from a list of countries, including Australia and New Zealand. Raw, or unpasteurized milk, is so common in Europe, especially in Austria and Switzerland, you can buy it from a vending machine there. However, it’s been banned in about half of the United States for the past thirty years. So you guys might want to reconsider your list the next time you go shopping.

SUMMARY:
– According to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, cereal bars contain an excess of “toxic” substances, which can have an adverse effect on children’s livers and kidneys if consumed regularly.
– According to a study published in Science Direct in 2016, 82% of all grown soybeans are genetically modified.
– Quite often, the meat of cattle, pigs, and turkeys is produced with ractopamine. Scientists believe that this meat can be harmful for people and lead to cardiovascular diseases.
– Potato chips containing olestra, a synthetic fat substitute, are banned in Canada and Europe. It doesn’t add fat, calories, or cholesterol.
– An inspection conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2014 found that 80% of apples contain diphenylamine. In Europe, DPA is considered to be a harmful substance that may cause cancer.
– The two preservatives many chewing gums contain: BHA and BHT, are banned in Japan and parts of the European Union.
– According to the European commission, gelatin sweets in small cups are extremely dangerous for children because they’re a choking hazard.
– Brominated vegetable oil is the main ingredient in orange colored soda and is a toxic poisonous chemical.
– Certain kinds of boxed pasta, frozen dinners and packaged baked goods contain azodicarbonamide (also known as ADA, E927). It’s banned in Europe and Australia.
– To produce instant mashed potatoes, butylated hydroxyanisole (ВНА or Е320, to make it easier) is often used. The National Institutes of Health conducted several studies and concluded that this preservative is potentially harmful to human health.
– A lot of foods, from cereals and baked goods, to candy and soda, have artificial dyes in them. They do make food look prettier, but they’re produced out of chemicals derived from petroleum.
– Consuming trans fats may lead to metabolism issues, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases. The highest percentage of trans fats are found in margarine.

We Could Bring Back the Woolly Mammoth, Here's How

Modern science is getting more and more advanced: human-like robots, cloning, creating new species. How about resurrecting extinct species? Could we, for instance, restore the woolly mammoth to the Arctic tundra and see with our own eyes what this animal looked like? Then all of our beloved Ice Age characters could be brought to life! Would it be possible?

How to Survive a Hurricane

How to Survive a Hurricane

Watch more Hurricanes & Storms videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/471526-How-to-Survive-a-Hurricane

Don’t wait until a storm is heading your way! Survive a hurricane with these safety precautions.

Step 1: Plan ahead
Plan ahead. Know the location of local shelters and how you’ll evacuate if you don’t have a car. If you have family members with special medical needs, ask local officials if there’s a registry so they get help in the event of power outages. Pick a place for family members to meet in case you become separated, and designate an out-of-town friend as the person everyone calls to report that they’re safe. Get flood insurance if you don’t already have it.

Tip
Make sure you know how to shut off electricity, gas, and water in case you’re instructed to do so.

Step 2: Be prepared
Have the following supplies on hand at the start of hurricane season: a 3-day supply of water that provides 1 gallon per person per day; a 3-day supply of non-perishable food that doesn’t require cooking; a flashlight and extra batteries; a battery-powered radio that can receive broadcasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; a first-aid kit; and a 7-day supply of medications.

Tip
The Atlantic and Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30; the Eastern Pacific is from May 15 through November.

Step 3: Get ready
If a hurricane warning is issued — meaning one is expected in the next 36 hours — bring in anything that can be tossed around by the wind; close and board up all windows and doors with 5/8″ marine plywood, unless you have hurricane shutters; clear rain gutters and downspouts; trim trees and shrubs; put your refrigerator and freezer on the coldest setting; and fill your car’s gas tank in case you’re ordered to evacuate.

Step 4: Go to a safe place
If you live on the first or 2nd floor of a high rise, make plans to take refuge with neighbors between floors 3 and 10 when the storm begins. Residents who live above the 10th floor should evacuate, as should mobile home dwellers and anyone living on a floodplain, near a river, or on an inland waterway.

Step 5: Do last-minute preparations
Shortly before the storm is expected to start, fill your bathtub with water so you have an extra supply on hand. Unplug small appliances and sensitive electronics, and turn off propane tanks.

Step 6: Ride out the storm
When the storm starts, stay away from windows and glass doors and avoid using the phone. Go to your home’s lowest level and stay in an interior room, closet, or hallway. Have a mattress or pillow to protect your head. Monitor weather conditions on your radio and don’t leave your safe place until local officials say it’s okay to do so.

Step 7: Avoid post-storm dangers
If you lose electricity, keep circuit breakers turned off until power is restored, then check for frayed wires. If you see any, call the power company. Leave the house immediately if you smell gas. If you’re returning home, don’t enter your house if floodwaters remain around the building; you see loose power lines or structural damage; or you smell a gas leak. If you have any safety concerns at all, stay elsewhere until your home is checked by a building inspector or structural engineer.

Did You Know?
2/3 of the hurricanes that hit land in the United States between 1981 and 2011 struck the Gulf Coast. The other third hit the Atlantic Coast.

What Happens to Planes After Retirement

What Happens to Planes After Retirement

Do you think that the newer an airplane, the safer the flight? Not quite. Modern commercial aircraft are very robust. One of the oldest commercial airplanes, a Boeing 737-200, made its first flight 40 years ago and still makes 3-4 regular flights a day! But what happens to the retired aircraft?

There are several options for airplanes that don’t fly anymore. One of the most common options is simply storage. The most ideal places for this purpose of storing airliners are deserts with dry climates, where the planes won’t rust too quickly. But what happens to airplanes after they arrive?

11 Gym Exercises Most People Are Doing Wrong

11 Gym Exercises Most People Are Doing Wrong

You pay for a gym membership and walk in, confident as can be. And when the front desk person asks you if you know how to work the machines, you proudly say “of course”. Seconds later, uh-oh, you realize you could’ve used some help, but you’re too shy to ask for it. Sound familiar? In that case, listen up – doing certain exercises wrong isn’t just useless, it can even injure you!

SUMMARY:
– The most common mistakes while doing squats are: rounding your back, going only half way down, rising onto your toes, and caving in your knees.
– The leg press seems like a rather simple machine that works out glutes and thighs, but if you’re using it wrong, it won’t do you any good. Avoid going too deep with your knees from the start, since this can injure your lower back.
– The most common mistake with shoulder raises is believing that the higher you go with the weights, the more effective the exercise will be.
– When you’re on the treadmill, avoid the temptation of holding onto the handrails – it makes running easier, and thus less effective, and can mess up your posture as you hunch over the machine.
– If you’re one of those people, but aren’t seeing any results in your abdominal muscles, you might just be doing crunches the wrong way. Don’t tuck your chin into your chest like many people do; this strains the neck.
– Triceps dips won’t give you the shoulder injury that many people fear, if you do them the right way. Keep your torso and butt close to the bench, step, or chair you’re working out on.
– When you row just with your arms, you’re exposing your upper body to too much pressure and can injure your back and shoulders. Try to split your efforts in a proportion of 60% going from your legs, and the remaining 40 percent from your core and arms.
– Stretching the elbows too far out, moving with your hips instead of your whole body, bending your back and neck, and going only halfway down are the most common mistakes people make while doing pushups.
– Bicep curls won’t do you much good if you curl your wrists upwards while exercising, drop the weights down too quickly, or swing them up, engaging your shoulders and back instead.
– As you extend your arms behind your neck, you’re giving your triceps a great workout. You can do it either with an EZ bar attachment, or a rope, but in any case, make sure you lock your elbows tight to your ribs.
– Probably the biggest surprise on the list – pull-ups and chin-ups – are the exercises most people do wrong, just because they believe there’s no way to mess them up. In fact, if you’re swinging your body as you move up and down, don’t brace your core and legs, and flop around – you are, indeed, doing it wrong.

How to Do a Reverse Vertical Figure 8 | Belly Dancing

How to Do a Reverse Vertical Figure 8 | Belly Dancing

Learn all the Belly Dance Moves Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFD096612161E3381

Belly dancing is sexy, fun, and burns up a lot of calories to boot! In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do the belly dance move known as a reverse vertical figure 8. You’ll be shaking it like Shakira in no time.

Now let’s try the Reverse Figure 8 going down-to-up. So keeping the knees bent, tailbone down, chest up. We’re going to drop the hip down, reach hip out, lift it up and you’re going to lift the heel off the floor, contract the hip back in and release it back down to neutral. Bend in your left knee a little bit more to drop the hip down, sliding out, lifting the heel up to bring the hip up, and you’re also gonna feel a contraction in your obliques and coming back to center, drop in to neutral. Down, up, up, heel up, In. Down, up, in, release. You’re going to feel a shift of weight from foot to foot. As you reach all the way out the highest point here is when you’re going to switch your attention to the other side to bring the heel down and up. So it’s a continuous motion going from one side to the other. Let’s try that with music [music starts]. Keep the chest hovering up and a little bit faster. And that’s how you do a down-to-up figure 8.

Chetna Makan's Lemon Cake with Passion Fruit Curd | At Home | Waitrose

Lemon Cake with Passion Fruit Curd is one of cookbook author Chetna Makan’s favourites – a bake that’s perfect for Mother’s Day.

Today, new opportunities for research keep appearing and, as a result, new findings and discoveries happen. Archaeology also uses the latest achievements in technology. However, some discoveries are made by common people. For example, a little girl found a real sword in a lake. And that weapon is at least 1,000 years old! So how about some recent archaeological findings that stupefied scientists all over the world?

SUMMARY:
– Terese Refsgaard, an amateur archaeologist from Denmark, made an astonishing discovery on an island in Horsens Fjord. She stumbled upon a real treasure cache: over 32 items of exquisite jewelry dating back to 500 CE.
– Lonely stone hut in Greenland shouldn’t even be there. It stands alone, literally in the middle of nowhere, and people couldn’t possibly have lived there all year around because it was simply too cold.
– A farmer from China was digging up his garden when he found a really old, rusty sword. He took the blade for himself, cleaned and sharpened it, and used it as a kitchen knife.
– They teach us that humans first arrived in the Americas about 13,000 years ago. Well, the tools found by a team of Texas State archaeologists date back 16,000 years, which is 3,000 years older.
– A flowerpot in Oxfordshire, England, turned out to be an ancient Roman sarcophagus worth more than $364,000.
– Archaeologists found14,000-year-old bread in Jordan. Scientists say it predates the age of agriculture by 4,000 years.
– A landowner from Norfolk, England, dug up a rather large piece of metal in his yard. It was a ceremonial dagger, or dirk, from the Bronze Age — that is, from about 3,500 years ago.
– Many amulets like this were found in different parts of Scandinavia, but this one is different. The scientists discovered that Thor’s Hammer actually belonged to the most famous Viking lord: King Harald Bluetooth.
