J’imagine que vous êtes nombreux à vous demander ce que devient l’incroyable dossier des momies non-humaines de Nazca. Au début de l’année 2024, nous avons eu le privilège immense de nous rendre au Pérou pour y retrouver notre ami Thierry Jamin et son équipe. Dès notre retour en France, nous vous avions dévoilé les images d’une nouvelle momie de type “insectoïde” que vous aviez tous baptisée Nukarri. Mais que s’est-il passé depuis ? De nouvelles avancées ont-elles vu le jour dans ce dossier tout aussi complexe que fascinant ?

C’est pour répondre à ces questions et pour faire un tour d’horizon des dernières informations sur les momies de Nazca que j’ai invité Thierry à nous rejoindre une nouvelle fois sur notre antenne.

Restoring a 100 year old family heirloom #PlatinumRing

Stella’s 100-year-old heirloom ring, passed down from her great aunt, had seen better days. The shank was cracked, worn thin, and the beads holding the diamonds were flattened. To bring this sentimental treasure back to life I carefully replaced the damaged shank with platinum from my scrap collection, soldering it on with precision to avoid scorching the diamonds. After rebuilding the prongs with my laser welder and reshaping them with a beading tool I blended the new shank into the ring and polished it to a brilliant shine. Stella’s reaction made every step worth it.

Pan fried barramundi with romesco and kipfler potatoes

Romesco

Ingredients:

– 2 bullhorn peppers (or capsicum/bell peppers)
– 2 plum tomatoes, halved
– 4 garlic cloves, lightly crushed
– olive oil
– salt
– 60g (2 oz) almonds
– 2 pieces of stale bread
– 1 tbsp smoked paprika
– 2 tbsp sherry vinegar

Method
1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the peppers, tomatoes, and garlic in an oven dish. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt. Roast for 25–30 minutes until the vegetables are softened and beginning to colour.
2. Remove the dish from the oven and transfer the roasted peppers to a bowl. Cover the bowl with a plate and let the peppers steam for 10 minutes.
3. Add the roasted tomatoes and peeled garlic to a blender.
4. Toast the almonds and torn pieces of bread in a dry pan over medium heat for 5–6 minutes, stirring frequently. Add them to the blender.
5. Peel the skin from the peppers, remove the seeds and stems, and add the flesh to the blender. Include the smoked paprika, sherry vinegar, a pinch of salt, and 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
6. Blend the mixture for a couple of minutes until smooth-ish. A little texture is desirable. If the sauce seems too thick, add some of the liquid released from the peppers during roasting.
7. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Your Romesco sauce is now ready to serve!

Romesco is fantastic with fried fish, grilled meats, or as a dip for pre-dinner snacks like crusty bread or raw vegetables.

Making Ice Cream On The Jobsite

We just made ice cream on the job site with paint cans and a cement mixer.
And all the flavors were construction inspired.
Up first, “Full Port-a-John” using chocolate covered almonds, peanut butter cups, cocoa powder, and finally some of my homemade hot pepper powder.
Not only is this stuff deadly, but it’ll send you to the port-a-john.
Next, we made “Electrician’s Mess”. I used my Klein wire strippers to cut little pieces of licorice and didn’t bother to clean any of it up.
Then I threw down a few wire nuts and some other random trash.
As a general contractor I’m used to cleaning up after electricians, so this flavor was really easy to make.
And the final flavor, “Hi-Vis and Caffeine“; We used Nerds, Sour Patch Kids, Pop Rocks, Mountain Dew, and some 5-hour energy.
You’re going to wanna see how this one turned out- it was wild.
We fired up the cement mixer, added in the cans, a couple hundred pounds of ice and rock salt.
This made a crazy racket- about an hour later we shut ‘er down to see what we had.
These turned out amazing. First, I tried “Full Port-a-John”. Really good, but a little too much hot pepper. “Electrician’s Mess” was good if you like licorice. And my favorite was the “Hi-Vis and Caffeine”

INGREDIENTS
FOR THE BREADCRUMBS
1/2 cup (50g) plain breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
3 tablespoons minced flat-leaf Italian parsley
1/2 teaspoon Diamond Crystal Kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon crushed hot red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons (30ml) extra virgin olive oil
FOR THE SAUCE AND LOBSTER
6 4-ounce (120g) lobster tails about 1 1/2 pounds worth
1/4 cup (60ml) extra virgin olive oil
10 cloves garlic minced
1/2 cup (120ml) white wine
1 1/4 cup (320ml) low sodium chicken stock
3/4 cup (180ml) passata
6 tablespoons (84g) butter small cubes, divided
2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
3 tablespoons minced flat-leaf Italian parsley
1 large lemon cut into wedges, for serving
