We Iranians celebrate the longest night of the year, which we call Yalda Night. For us (People of Northern IRAN) , the Yalda spread has always been simple yet colorful.

One of the delicious treats we always have on our Yalda table is Common Medlar Pickled. In mid-autumn, we head to the forest to gather Wild Common Medlar and soak it in salt water, letting it soften and become flavorful over time.

Another nostalgic snack that our mom used to make for us as kids is Rice Snacks. She would dry leftover rice from lunch on a tray placed over the heater and fry it in oil whenever we craved it. Finally, she’d sprinkle a little sugar on top.

One of the most beautiful Yalda traditions is reading poetry from Hafez and seeking fortunes through his verses.

Wishing you a Yalda full of joy and good vibes, dear!
