Create A Better Food Plot Edge

Here is how you can create a better food plot edge! Creating a food plot edge is the first step in creating for bedding that eventually leads to buck bedding. What is edge feathering? Well that term I’d used very loosely to describe anywhere from a wall of logs to an actual feathered food plot edge. Here is how to make sure you are on the right path to a beautiful food plot edge this season…

  1. I’ve watched nearly all of your youtube content and recently bought 40 acres here in SO IL and plan on putting some food plots in this season
Quick question about weed control for a new land owner and newbie to food plots. I’ve got the Glyphosate 41% and the 2,4-D that’s recommended but do you mix the 2 into the same 25 gallon spraying? You might have mentioned this on one of your videos but I can’t seem to find it

    Thank you

  2. At this point I must have watched hundreds of your videos, and others, some several times. In my opinion, this is the best so far in. This one is actually showing an "overall picture" of the area you are addressing. The drone footage, and by pulling back from the shots of you , we can actually see the lay of the land and what you have done. I have 450 acres in the Catskills of NYS where I grew up I am 73 and the land was "high graded" three times. My land is 12+/- acres of tillable and 25 acres of 50 year old pasture. The rest is wooded and mountain terrain and very rocky soil. I have been planting soybean and brassica for years. I am switching to do no-till. I have not done any real timber improvement as my land is enrolled in NYS 480 A. I am now starting to do the 1/2 acre openings in the timber and the edge feathering. The deer loved the fresh cuttings this winter. You and your folks are in my opinion the best in the business. I love Grant Woods but he is in a much different climate from us up north. You make perfect sense to me. Thank you and please continue to "improve" these videos. I can't wait for the next one and planting season.

  3. Someone built a small plot with a 20 yard strip of timber between it and a field what would you recommend to do for that small of a strip of woods

  4. Very important to start by the food plots and work your way back deeper. Need to make the doe bedding first!!

  5. We've owned our 87 acres since 2011 in SW WI and we've had a turkey explosion this year! So awesome to see and without a doubt, your advice help make it happen. Thanks Jeff!

  6. Jeff, can switchgrass grow among white pines? Sandy soil,, A lot of white pine trees

  7. Your input has been a yearly book of how to do it. Extremely helpful. The depth of cover and the development of deer specific locational positions to food is so critical. I have hinge cut trees around plots as well as the associated travel corridors. I still need to add water holes near the mock scrapes. First of the three summer sprayings in a couple weeks. Based on previous years scouting of most recent travel patterns, thus stand relocation comes next before too much green up. Great time of the year.

  8. Any experience in wolf territory? Do you find they are less predictable?  Mature big woods bucks in heavy wolf territory, maybe the hardest thing to get close to imo. Any change in your plot and/or bedding strategy?

  9. Good video. quick question how close would you put a food plot to a 2-track that gets driven down 2-3 times a day. Located in the UP of Michigan?

  10. I took your advice for a water hole on my 5 acre parcel and it was an absolute game changer. Also I live in Florida up in the panhandle and I know your environment and mine are different. So I try and adapt toy place. Thank you for great content.

  11. Any tips on how to get a lazy brother in law out there to help on the hunting land? Lol! ????
