  1. A little of both.. but when I do my own thing I have to consult with friends since I have no concept of the color wheel..

  2. I like to paint them in my own style like for instance the thousand sons: ill usually do more of a neon turquoise blue and then bronze metal

  3. So i have my chaos army that i paint to look as lore accurate ss i imagine my army(headcannon is my basis) then my genestealers which have a theme then evrruthing else is just whatever i want

  4. I feel like I can see the battles and stories my miniatures have in my head and I try to paint them like I see them in that.

I love the painterly style recent blood angel art has had so I try to paint them like that

  5. I like to aim for box art but I donโ€™t mind just slapping down paint to see what works

  6. The two times I tried to replicate box art it ended up not looking like the box art lol.

  7. Depends on the army. With my nids, I just get paint going and whatever happens to the poor bastards happens. XD Sylvaneth, on the other hand, look like garbage if you do that, so I watch ~24331242341 tutorials before I combine a buncha stuff and hope it works. Last time it ended with me priming my Arch-Revenant for the 55th time…….

  8. So if it's the first time I'm painting, I try to make it look like box art if I painted those particular minis before I get a little more creative

  9. I was gonna start collecting thousand sonsโ€ฆthen the emperors children were released

  10. I sometimes look at artwork to get a good idea of what I want to paint. Especially old stuff from the 90s and such with the classic warhammer look

  11. I appreciate your love for the art of the hobby, but FOR THE EMPERORS' SAKE CAN YOU PLEASE CUT THE FLASHING OFF YOUR PIECES?!

  12. Fuck box art. I paint lore accurate. Meaning i research what their heraldic markings mean and i put it in the correct places. Unlike GW apparently

  13. When I did my Thousand Daddy issues I went 99% Box art accurate Save for the heads on my Regular Rubric's They got switched for Anubis head's Because it look's way better. Also my first Terminator was Black Red and Orange lol not exactly great but I was experimenting.. Only Custom army I have is the Tyranid's with a Green color shift to purple with a red body and Blue highlight's and yes doing 60 termagunt's was a pain in the you know what.

  14. My personal models are my own design. My knight lancer is a bright metallic candy red with copper trim. And all over it, I've freehanded faction symbols with tally marks showing how many times I've beaten them. I'm still relatively new so it's not much, but I have 6 necron tallies.

  15. Yes! So glad your on your positive side now! Itโ€™s nice to hear you talk like this

  16. I paint because i enjoy painting and its a great way of destressing. That said I dont think I have ever painted like box art in my life, as those edge highlights give me nightmares ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  17. Almost every mini i have painted has been an experiement, new paint scheme, tweaked shades, trying a new technique, some kitbashing
The freedom of not playing TT and not army painting

  18. Im new to the hobby and paint grey knights. I can say with absolute certenty i just paint how i want, building not just an army of nameless soldiers but i make sure each mini has its own story. my prosess like this: build, modify, paint, imagine repeat. And it works

  19. i like and play deathwatch and white scars (and there successor chapters)
i paint both armys, both are difficult to paint cause black and white are hard to shade
i try to go off the lore like death watch is every chapter but there base color is black
and white scars are mongols that i need to kitbash a lot mainly the topknot and armor for the HQ's.
