  2. I would be curious if you compare the Danner mountain light with ANY Italian made hiking boots (premium)… I highly suspect if the mountain light would win (or even close?)…

  10. Danner used to be a good boot. Actually, it's my first boot I bought and really enjoy using it for almost 7 years.
    Seeing how they have been downgrading their boots, my next one definitely not Danner.

  11. Most footwear are insane low quality. In Denmark we have 2 years warranty. I hope EU soon will make 5 or 10 years warranty so we can get better quality.

  13. Danner should be ashamed and 20 years on and people are still calling Goretex ‘allegedly breathable’. Caveat emptor.

  14. GoreTex is pure hype, guarantees wet sweaty feet. Danner has been selling mostly their name for a long time.

  15. My coworker paid $380 for a pair of danners and they were not built like a $400 boot. More like a $250 boot. They really like to charge for the name.

  17. Most hiking and mountain boots (including boots far tougher than these Danners) are glued only construction. Even those with 2.8mm leather uppers. It's not a problem nowadays with modern glues and manufacturing processes.
    As far as the Goretex membrane is concerned it's usually bits of grit that work their way into the boot, that puncture the GTX membrane.
    Boots lined with Goretex never breathe as well as boots without the membrane. Perhaps 30% as well, though the boots liner material on the inside against the foot will absorb a certain amount of moisture.
    Also, when the boot outer is saturated, the membrane will breathe much less (or not at all).
    This can be mitigated to some degree by treating the outer of the boot with leather waterproofing products .
    The biggest problem with GTX boots IMHO is that in wet conditions, water gets into the boots from splashing over the top or from rain running down your trouser and doesn't get out as it has to evaporate first which is not really going to happen when your foot is sitting in a puddle. And they take an age to dry out and often smell REALLY badly when they do.
