Creating a profitable business isn’t the easiest endeavor.

First of all in today’s world we have to constantly be adapting to change which impacts the way we connect our business to new customers, clients and patients – whatever your language is.

In order to prosper in today’s market place you have to create a marketing strategy that isn’t focused on immediate gain which can be a trouble spot for many businesses. When immediate gain isn’t seen its easy to assume something isn’t working or even necessary and then quit.

Fast forward there is major struggle in the business and then trouble spots are recognized. Now we’re like “why didn’t I do better? Why didn’t I follow through??

Its hard to work toward something without immediate return.

That’s why busy work and tasks in our business are so seductive and suck us in – its because we feel the action of being busy and feeling tired and we allow this illusion of productiveness to satisfy us.

I was talking about this with someone a while back and they said something rather interesting. Why is it as humans we are good at committing in personal relationships but struggle with making commitments in our business to things like marketing and longer term goals?

Hmmmm that’s a good one.

My theory is simply because t’s easier to make a commitment to a person than it is to our business.

In a relationship you get immediate reward from a partner so its easier to give them your focus and attention.

For example if I tell my husband how amazing and handsome he is – he is very likely to vacuum the floor. This is just a small example but you get where I am going with this right? I’m focused on my partner and committed to meeting his needs thus I get what I want from the relationship as well.

In a relationship we also aren’t alone – well in an ideal relationship that is. Our mate serves as a witness to our lives and that gives us the motivation and return we need.

A business is quite different. Being a business owner can sometimes be very lonely. Couple feeling lonely in a business and not seeing light at the end of a tunnel – it can be rather hard to focus on long term goals.

This is why I think its crucial to have a mentor, a business coach or something so you don’t feel isolated and you have someone holding you accountable for the times you aren’t able to do it for yourself.
