Why Paleo Diet Ruined My Health
Paleo Diet had a harmful impact on my health and wellness and because I made the initial video clip concerning why I gave up the diet regimen, I’ve been attempting to comprehend why Paleo diet regimen failed me so a lot. It’s 2 years down the line currently, and my healing from reduced carbohydrate consuming is virtually over (crucial to keep in mind below that what I call reduced carbohydrate in this situation is 100-150g of carbohydrates – for Paleo diet plan this is on the greater side). The fact is that I’ve obtained a great deal of comparable testimonies from individuals, so I’m not the only individual whose wellness was wrecked by Paleo diet plan.
2. It aggravated my adrenal wellness
3. It’s reduced in magnesium
4. It pressed me in the direction of overtraining
5. It goes entirely versus my heritage
Have you attempted Paleo diet plan? Have you experienced any kind of concerns with it? What has your experience been?

If you haven't watched the original video about all of the issues I ran into with Paleo diet here it is: https://youtu.be/9Q6hrHL5dGU. Have you tried Paleo diet yourself? Have you experienced any issues with it? What has your experience been? Thanks for watching! <3
P.S. Please remember to express your opinion politely. My channel is not a place for diet fanaticism.

Porky Chop says:

Paleo ruined my life also. I bought all the books, did the research, and followed it exactly and very precisely. I ended up with severe kidney stones and gout so bad I couldn't lay down (the uric acid crystals formed in my spine and were pressing on my nerves. I couldn't walk or lay down, nor lift my leg up. I nearly lost bowel and bladder control. I did this diet for 3 years. I finally consulted a neurologist (I was scared I had a spinal tumor), and he said he is seeing this issue more and more. I changed my diet back to sanity (Michael Gregor and McDougall) and my health returned, I lost weight, I can walk, sleep and go back to they gym. This has been such a nightmare, and I wish people would have the courage to speak out. Things get very scary when the arguments for Paleo and Keto start, and people with their opinions are so insistent that I am wrong. I now don't say anything, but when people ask me how I lost weight, I tell them that I used the McDougall and Gregor plan…and I don't mention Paleo or Keto, as it invokes anger.

Who told her paleo was very low carb? I don't think paleo can ruin anyone's health lol

Sublimation Club says:

Wow I am glad you are better.:) But our body makes carbs if we need it so interesting you think it was because you weren't eating enough. I am not on Paleo but just wondering because I am on low carb diet because of PCOS and insulin resistant.

Cat W. says:

Thank you for this. I am trying a paleo lower-carb diet to see if it helps my ME/CFS and depression and it would be interesting if it actually made things worse over time. I am trying to be as anti-inflammatory as possible, as these things are considered nueroimmue and neuroinflammatory conditions.

I also know that I have heard some Paleo people talk about having a regular high carb meal here and there, so I don't plan to follow this all the time. One person said a resilient body should be able to handle this and that people should enjoy that weekly night out with family, etc. and eat what they want. I wonder if this helps balance things out a bit.

I also don't need to lose much weight, though I would like to get rid of some belly fat that is forming due to perimenopause. I know when I tried a more Primal diet for two weeks years ago, I felt clearer mentally and had a bit more energy. I will certainly come back and report as to how this is going for me.

I am reading Chris Kresser's book. "Your Personal Paleo Code" that I got at a thrift stores years ago. He actually believes that everyone is different and no one paleo diet fits everyone, so the book is geared towards tailoring it to individual needs.

Anyway, thank you so much for your cautionary tale. I like the idea of just a whole foods diet and didn't know that about fructose intolerance and FODMAPS. I also got a lot worse trying a vegan diet. The carbs involved really made all things worse. (Noting your comment somewhere else here.)

Oh my…. Short of thyroid…. 80% plant and 20% meat… Is the best…. Glad you found out about your aliments

Luciana Foti says:

I am a bigger fan of the autoimmune paleo diet but a modified version of it. One is supposed to eat loads of cooked veggies and not overdo the meat or fruit. In fact, I would keep the fruit at a minimum. One should also stick to low mercury fish such as sardines every now and then. A huge reason why these diets fail is because people do not eat enough carbs for starters. However, there are plenty of carb options to eat, most notably butternut squash, yams and plenty of high carb veggies. If one needs more carbs, they can add in some fruit but keep it at a minimum. I recently started looking into Dr. Wilson's opinion on yin and yang, and he states that we are too "yin" these days, thus eating a diet high in fruit is too yin and not good for us. I still believe some fruit is fine. Furthermore, one is supposed to supplement with magnesium regardless of the diet because our soil is depleted of magnesium. I do not think we can get enough from any kind of food. The AIP blogs I have read have had women who use a magnesium spray they concoct and intake magnesium via pills at the same time. Lastly, the AIP is a temporary diet that is meant to put symptoms into remission. After you start feeling better, you slowly introduce foods back in like lentils, quinoa, etc. I think it is brilliant when modified and done right. Overall, everyone is different. Amazing things have happened on vegan diets as well but no diet works for everyone.

Interesting. Thanks. I have a friend who just started Paleo about a week ago. I'm considering it myself. You are the most beautiful lady I've seen in a video in a long time.

jra says:

thank you for this video. it is SO needed in the face of all the boosterism around very low carb diets out there!

i was always skeptical of the paleo diet, and have always believed more in an ancestral way of eating that's adapted to one's own particular body/genetics. however recently, i developed digestive issues with carbs after a course of antibiotics, and so ended up going on a very low carb elimination diet to heal from that. at the same time, i learned about the wahls protocol, (a sort of supercharged autoimmune paleo/keto mix) and since i was already having to eat very low carb for my digestive issues, decided to follow it, to see if it could help me heal from a separate chronic illness. also, i'm prediabetic (so many health issues!) and so in reading all the keto evangelism out there, i thought maybe it would help with that too. and i didn't even really follow the paleo bit (ate dairy, eg), just the keto bit — there was just so much out there extolling its virtues, i thought, this is gonna be great!

well, long story short, it messed me up in a lot of ways that you discuss here! so i'm really glad you made a video to discuss it. though, i'm only seeing it after i started adding more carbs back in, because i kept searching on things like "problems with ketogenic diet" and finding barely ANYthing! the keto worshipping is so strong.

the damage to my hormones and metabolism is what really worries me the most, though since i only did it for about 6 months i'm hoping i can heal from it. i learned about how eating an imbalance of protein/fat vs. carb affects hormones thanks to the work of an endocrinologist (and a woman, which i think makes a difference! so many male paleo/keto evangelists) dr. diana schwarzbein — have you heard of her / read her books? specifically her 2nd book, the schwarzbein principle 2. which she wrote years ago, in the 1990s i think! (so, before any of the keto / paleo / even low carb madness.)

she originally recommended low carb diets in her first book, for dealing with diabetes, but then when people went too low carb, she wrote her second book to explain why the right amount of carbs are important, too. and even for diabetics and prediabetics (which is the info i'm so glad to have found). she talks about the impact of our diet on our hormones, specifically insulin as well as cortisol/adrenaline/noradrenaline, and how we need a balance between the two and an extreme low carb diet results in overproduction of the stress hormones (cortisol et al) which i DEFINITELY was experiencing (and man was it awful).

anyway, i thought if you weren't familiar with her work you might be interested in the reference. there are a couple of videos of her giving a talk at the silicon valley health institute on youtube which are long, but where she gets into some of this, and specifically towards the end, why insulin, which is so maligned nowadays, is actually an important "building" hormone that we need in our bodies in the right amount, to be in balance.

whoa, this comment ended up being much longer than i expected! anyway, thanks again for your video. i like that you are honest and unafraid to go against the prevailing ways of thinking, and that you think for yourself!

Nova Europa says:

I just found a list of high magnesium foods…. almonds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, bananas, cashews, pumpkin seed, flaxseed, broccoli, peas – ALL paleo (yes, peas and green beans are advocated on paleo despite being legumes). You don't work for the wheat industry do you, you know those guys who peddle frankenwheat as 'healthy' ??

Maria Marie says:

I think that it is important to note that not all paleo diets have to be low carb. Personally on the paleo diet I feel great, I don’t starve myself of carbohydrates. The carbohydrates that I fill up on are mostly vegetables, but some people choose to go with the low carb version of paleo and they don’t get the full advantages.(I’m a very active teenage female) I’m not saying that you are wrong in your assessment of the paleo diet, I just think that it treats each person differently.
