Adding spices to your food is not abnormal. In fact, many of us CRAVE them! Of course they’re tasty on chicken, steak, corn, and everything in between, but there is a MUCH deeper reason to why we use spices. Watch to find out what it is…

The crazy thing is technically caffeine counts in this as well.
I Guess matpat wanted to SPICE UP the channel
There's also some monkeys that will dip sweet potatoes in nearby salt water
Isn't most spices have good smell? Wouldn't that be another reason why?
Another food theory: eating hot, spicy food makes you sweat–which is comforting if you live on the equator and suffer very hot weather.
Thank you for the video.
There's a group of monkey that where studied over the years , and over time they learned to put sweet potatoes in salt water (without human intervention) to spice up their food . So we are not unique in adding spicy stuff to food .
Finally a FOOD THEORY
I mean I'm into bdsm, I don't know what y'all's excuse is.
Yeah, spice’s where historically to do
with keeping thing’s fresh, And mask’s
the taste and smell of Rinsed Meat,
So yeah, That’s pretty cool~
He should do a theory on why Arby’s keep adding new menu items, but I feel like it’s a little obvious.
This guy talks so quick like my ears are running a marathon to keep up ahaha
Not to mention, plants that carry these spices have fewer pests that are interested in eating them, so cultivating them and growing enough to feed your whole village was easier than with other foods
all his channels are better than any other science channels fr
Though it’s true, I can see why he didn’t want to say Northern Europeans can’t cook seasoned foods like others.
tuesday upload. why.
Fun fact: today I learnt that cilantro is the Spanish word for coriander. I had never seen 'cilantro' before this video, but instantly recognised it as I hate coriander so will always recognise it.
In looking that up I also found out that apparently 20% of people dislike coriander/cilantro, so it's nice to know that I'm not crazy for hating it.
Edit: also, Americans call capsicums "bell peppers". When I think pepper I think spicy and chili (which I dislike), but I love capsicum, so I actually avoided a dish here in Cambodia for about half a year until I realised that it actually contained an ingredient I'd like, not one I'd dislike.
an entire video on spices and not even a sideline dune reference? I am disappoint
At the time 6:17 you matpat displayed Hermes’ (the Greek messenger of the gods greek mythology) caduceus to represent medicine/health when the Rod of Asclepius (Greek god of HEALTH Greek mythology) is the correct staff to represent health/medicine because Asclepius is the god of health. But I can forgive you because it is a common mistake. The Rod of Asclepius is a stick with only one snake slithering up it.
Love the theory channels
as sombody from denmark ….food here is boring or salty …. but long live pig lol
As a lifelong fan of absurdly-spicy food, I am grateful to be living in this time.
What would happen, if I swallowed a pill containing 1,000,000 kcal?
Sorry spices serve us no evolutionary advantage since evolution is scientifically impossible here let me give u an example u believe nothing created everything not that there was nothing but nothing was the creative force that made everything that’s ludicrous here another example a painting is ABSOLUTE proof there was a painter why cause paintings don’t paint themselves and a building is ABSOLUTE proof there was a builder therefore Creation is ABSOLUTE proof there was a Creator cause nothing can’t make the flowers birds trees puppies kittens etc so please look with an open mind and ask God to reveal himself to u cause He will He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance and u will see the genius of God in everything
I would like an episode on how pretty much all of our food is named wrong ????. The origins of the naming of chili peppers is quite comical. Wonder what other foods we have named that doesn't really make any sense ????
This video feels short without the classic food theory intro theme
