How To Drill A Well

Ok so what’s going on here and what’s all over the ground?
We’re getting ready to build a house on 5 acres and the first thing we want to do is drill a well.
It’s hard to budget for the cost of a well because you don’t know how deep you must go to get water, so I like to get this out of the way early.
The guys grabbed 20-foot sections of drill rod our of the carousel and thread them onto the previous piece.
They use non-polluting grease on the threads, so they won’t seize.
This rig uses 350 PSI of air to power a pneumatic rotary hammer to drill into the bedrock.
At 160 feet we hit a lot of water- Here’s how they measured the gallons per minute: They created a damn around a section of PVC pipe so they could fill a one-gallon container with water.
We timed how long it took to fill- 2 seconds. 60 seconds divided by 2 seconds is 30- that meant we had 30 GPM.
I made this drawing to explain how it went- They hit bedrock at 20 feet down, at this point they put in a piece of steel casing.
They drove the casing into the bedrock to make a seal. The casing keeps surface water from leaking into the well.
Next, they drilled down to 160 feet where they hit a lot of water- this company always drills a minimum of 200 feet, in case there’s a drought, we’re more likely to still have water.
Let me know in the comments -how much do you think this well will cost? @hausplans

  1. Hey old rancher tip from at one time the windmill capitol. Preforated pcv pipe first, then pcv pipe to case the rest the way out of the well. What the point in drilling a well? If you don't case the whole. Out here the well holes can calapse and if you use steel pipe casing, they won't refill it. If its Pcv pipe they can redrill out the calapse and casing.

  2. I work for champion irrigation in Florida and we have two of them rigs and I don't know how much it cost for yall but I would like to know how long it takes yall for a 200 foot well??
