  1. Can wood really hold up to the hostile environment of space? In the sunlight, it can be about 250°F and in the shade -250°F. A swing in temperature of roughly 500°F has to be tough on wood, which does contain a small amount of its own moisture. Here in the northern great lakes, we only see temps swing about 1/4 of that in space over a long period, where space would be much more frequently.

  2. You do realize Jerry rig is a slur? Jerry comes from Jerry curls … It's not better than saying the other phrase…

  3. It's the wood that makes them good. Seinfeld

The good thing about wood is that trees use brute force attack to reproduce. Trees even survived the 2025 LA fires. Houses 0, trees 80.

  4. Environmentally friendly? Seriously? How about tons of rocket fuel burned to get it up there? This feels like a drop in the bucket.

  6. Satellite materials typically avoid anything that would release gas and particles in a vacuum (out-gassing) that could coat the electronics or cause unexpected damage, and I would assume all wood would out-gas, which is exactly why you don't see it in spacecraft. Maybe this wood has special properties
