How To Make Cheese Scones | Cookery School | Waitrose

Cheese scones are perfect for brunch or afternoon tea – Chef tutor Andrew Roberts shows us how to make them at our Kings Cross Cookery School
This recipe is easily adaptable. If you want a strong cheese flavour you can use extra mature Cheddar like Andrew has done however most hard cheeses will work – parmesan or ComtΓ© would both offer a tangy, rich flavour.

Ingredients:
225g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting
1 tsp baking powder
50g salted butter, diced
100g extra mature Cheddar, finely grated
150ml milk, plus extra for brushing

We are the only supermarket to have our own Cookery Schools. You can join Andrew and our other talented chefs to perfect your skills in a wide range of different classes. We have specialised kitchens in Finchley Road, Kings Cross and Salisbury and you can join our chefs virtually too. Click on the link below to find out more.

  1. The best recipe! Love the fact that the scones didn't turn out dry. Thanks for sharing!

  2. a tiny tiny pinch of turmeric powder (curcuma powder) can be added, too, if one wishes to achieve a slightly yellower end result πŸ’–

  3. You missed out the essential ingredient! A good pinch of mustard powder! ALWAYS add this to cheese scones, brings out the flavour of the cheese and you don’t taste mustard either. Also, you should never CUT scones you should break them apart in half, otherwise the scone tastes doughey.

  4. I’m watching this in my food tech I’ll edit this when I make them and say my review 🌸
