How to Make this Restored Machine even more Awesome with an Epic Control Box?

My Pask Makes Hammer: https://paskmakes.com/the-pask-makes-brass-hammer/

Many of you requested a video of a vintage style control box for my drill press, so here it is. it was a lot of work in both designing and making it. Probably a bit over the top but it was fun to make with a few cool elements to it. I’d love to know if you thought it was worth the effort or should I have made something more simple and moved on to another project?

Even though I worked out the rpm’s for all four belt positions I doubt it will ever move off the second pulley as it gives me a wide range of 200-2100 rpm.

As always I’m happy to answer any questions.

I also meant to say that it took 30 minutes to form the front panel, to give you a bit of an idea.

Even though I worked out the rpm's for all four belt positions I doubt it will ever move off the second pulley as it gives me a wide range of 200-2100 rpm. 🙂

  2. That Looks great! I've never seen "hammer forming" apart from people making armour.

  3. "I may look like I know what I'm doing but…"
???? come now, sir, be honest, you're an old hand at this, been doing it for years now! ???? Well done sir!

  4. A strip of flat copper under the joint to be welded stops (or reduces) blow through. Works great in corners too.

  5. Dear Neil, what a beautiful tutorial an sheet metal forming. Next we’ll see an English Wheel in your workshop and you’ll be making curved 3D pieces like fenders! Thanks for sharing.

  6. You can back up your weld with a piece of aluminum, it will help with blowing through.

  7. TIG welding thin stock with a torch mounted switch is a real pain. The way I always handle thin stuff is to crank the amps up till you're sure it'll blow right out, then give it the lightest taps on the pedal you can. The massive but rapid heat dump prevents too much thermal mass building up. Without a pedal, I'd be hopeless.

  8. . WOW'
    what is it'
    what does it do'
    LOL Naaaaaaaa it's great ????
Lol ya goofy m8te from Australia ????

  9. Great video! If you ever need to join something really thin, or dissimilar metals, you can use your tig welder with silicon bronze rod. It's more of a brazing rod. It melts at a lower temperature than steel so you don't need to melt the base metal.

  10. (in an awaesone auzzie accent) I reckon that came out wonderfully so ill be sure to drop a like.

  11. that box is stunning. I'm going to be awake half the night now, trying to think of an excuse for making one!

  12. Looks amazing Neil, you'd never even know that it didn't come with it stock!! ????????

  13. I applaud your skill which has grown greatly but your patience is off the charts. Bravo Neil.
