Be sure that you prime whatever countertop you’re using with white paint/primer so that it seals the edges and prevents any mdd from showing through.

If you all have any tips on sealing the MDF edges, please let me know down below in the comments!

MODERN BUILDS

Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I’m a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I’ve focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

  1. wow mike! this is magic! you're truly gifted at this process, such a beautiful marble design.

  2. u should try using a cake Spatula instead of a paint brush so there will be no bristles

  3. 1-800-superpro tip. Put your epoxy in a sink full of warm water for a while before starting. Helps bring it up to temp and would solve the temp problem you had

  4. Terrific job on that epoxy countertop pour Mike! It really turned out looking great! ????????????????

  5. It's like my middle school (and junior high) art teacher used to tell us: "if you make a mistake, work with it"!
Even 20-something years later, I still remind myself of that when I'm restoring an area and it doesn't QUITE come out like I had planned!

  6. You mean putting what amounts to tape on MDF gave you a crappy countertop?! ???? What a shocker!

  7. Bro, I love the good the bad, owning it. I have been following Stonecoat Countertops forever now. You should check them out, might give you some awesome ideas for your next projects.

  8. Hey Mike, was a cool project. But yeah priming is a must. You shouldnlook at stonecoatcountertops. They make tons of videos about this. Their epoxy seems great too. They usually tape the perimeter and do their designs using pigments and also rattle cans sprayed in the bucket (nice effect). They remove the tape after an hour or more and it flow thick on the sides, using his hand to break the surface tension if it doesnt flow everywhere on the sides. After 5h he scrape the botttom epoxy like you did. Its a slow epoxy so you have lot of time to work with.

  9. Your videos are always so well-structured and easy to follow, thank you! ????

  10. I told you, and many others told you. It looks liked shit, and wouldn't last.

  11. I literally just watched this whole video with my mouth agape. I feel like the term “Pro Tip” is being thrown around really loosely here. ????

  12. Wow!!! The counter tops look great!!! Good job – I’m gonna watch the video again!! Very cool!!
