Inside Karan Johar's bachelor pad in Mumbai | AD India

A sweet, long friendship is the special ingredient in this “subtly over the top” bachelor pad designed by Gauri Khan for her friend and client Karan Johar – inarguably one of Bollywood’s most influential film-makers.

When Johar decided that the approximately 5,500-square-foot apartment extension to his penthouse home, nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac off Bandra’s Pali Hill, needed a gut renovation, Khan was the only choice. The home with its wraparound terrace served Johar, his mother Hiroo, and his twins Roohi and Yash tremendously during the lockdown. “It’s such a vast space, and with no furniture around, the kids could run around and play. Every evening, once Roohi and Yash were done with virtual schooling, we would gather there for chai, and get in some family time.”

His brief to Gauri was simple: Convert it into an airy, one-bedroom bachelor pad and get it done fast. “At 50, I wanted this to be my very own space — with a large living room for bringing my friends together, and a bedroom with, of course, a massive wardrobe. I joke to Gauri that what she’s created is not a walk-in but a run-in, and my bathroom, well, you can play cricket in there!”

  1. The Movie Mafia is the face i hate to see the most in the Industry. Why the fuck you r so hostile towards outsiders? I hate to see your face GAYJO

  2. Why the f is it that reputable organisation lose their shit when they cater to Indians. Architectural digest is about the art and architecture, not about these mediocre ass celebs. Everything in India becomes a watered down version of something great.

  3. Wow ????Gauri mam superb design.
Karan sir looking great and dashing in white. Home suits your style.

  4. Agar ye dusre ke liye banwaya gaya hota toh definitely home jaisa lagta. Lekin Karan jo party animal hai, zyada waqt ghatiya aur gandi partiyon mein guzarta hai uske liye Ghar ek Hotel jaisa hi hai. Kaam ke chalte nahi balki login se kaam chinn ke chalte ye zyada waqt Ghar par nahi guzar sakta.

  5. This is so generic and devoid of any actual personality. Much like the work Guari has done elsewhere to other people’s home. Except for the large arch shaped doors there is nothing of substance.

  6. If the house looks soulless, it was probably designed by Gauri Khan.

  7. Let's be honest…this man has created one of the most iconic bollywood movies of all time
