Terrazzo done in a minimal and classic way is elegant and timeless
I love Edison bulbs and wire light fixtures were I can see them! ! I have them everywhere except bathroom)))))
love your editing humor .
Couldn't agree more with you on everything. Barns doors especially. I was into them for a year but was over it by then, probably because it spread like a bush fire in summer.
I'm trying to shop for new light fixtures & it has been driving me INSANE that everything is exposed bulb!! I have blue eyes so light sensitivity is a real thing. I need that bulb covered! I've been shocked for years that all the design channels constantly put these things in their designs without ever talking about how damn bright it is when on, hahaha. Totally feeling you on that one. ๐ ๐
๐You are so funny, being so resistant to having light fixtures with exposed light bulbs!! You do realize that this isn't a trend (although the farmhouse style lanterns certainly are SO yesterday); chandeliers have had exposed light bulbs since for-ever. And I have never been a fan of barn doors – they don't offer true privacy (it can't close securely, so if it's a bedroom or bathroom door, well, everyone can hear what's going on on the other side – awkward!)
What I donโt love about the exposed bulbs is that eventually youโll have to replace the bulbs, and unless they all go out at the same time, youโll very likely end up having a hard time making sure that your bulbs are all identical. And that would not be cute.
5:56, ack finger thumb claw, but at least they can rip up the grey floor
Oh the pianoโฆ.that will forever be a staple for old money and new money.
I have an issue with bright lights as well. They hurt my eyes and can trigger migraines.
What do you think about the current obsession with all white sofas? It doesnโt seem to be practical at all
I think the piano thing is so that the sound travels up the stairwell to all rooms.
Me: sitting over here practicing rolling my Rs in "terrazzo" like Viv.
I like terrazzo in moderation. For some reason, it reminds me of when I was a little kid in the '60's.
I love a grey florng
Yay – my beige and brown interior will be coming back into fashion again! You just have to wait long enough for it to cycle through and your time will also come. ๐. Terrazzo was used a lot as flooring in 1960s/70s built shopping centres in the UK so that is what it will always remind me of.
I have hated the exposed light bulb/Edison bulb thing from day one. I want to see a bare light bulb about as much as I want to see an armpit.
Changes in temperature and humidity (aka being by the front door) are BAD for the piano
I enjoy someone who knows what they're doing validating my opinions. Well, some of them anyway. I cannot stand gray everything or blinding white for the reasons that you state. I love my dated ca 2018 builder beige. Is it trendy or original? No, but it is warm and inviting.
I do like the exposed bulbs, but my solution to them is dimmer switches. I usually don't need them at full brightness, so they're warm and pleasing rather than blinding.
I don't care about the piano thing because I'm middle class, but the term "McMansion" rung a bell. If you're looking at the juxtaposition of classical, sophisticated, elegant, and expensive pieces with cookie-cutter modern home construction, then I agree 100%. Sometimes things can look tacky in spite of being expensive. I have that attitude toward the Cadillac Escalade, for example. I've seen modern stucco homes that look very average, but the person put columns with lion statues in the driveway. It doesn't go…
As a general rule, I wouldn't love anything in a real home that looks too trendy unless it's a hobby to switch it out every few years. It can have a way of looking too curated, impersonal, and maybe even a little bit basic. "This was on 350 episodes of something on HGTV. I want it!"
Do you have any tips to do a renovation with timeless decor design? Something that will not look outdated in 2 years ?
Terrazzo when done in 2-3 shades with smaller, dense pieces can look very beautiful. But this extremely multi-colored, bright chunky terrazzo that's currently "in" looks cheap to me at best, and an eyesore at worse. Its very difficult to style, and since the stone pieces are so large and spread out, the eye doesn't have a good place to settle. Very eager for terrazzo to fall back out of style! Or at least for terrazzo styling to turn to its more classy and classic original style.
