  1. After removing the felt you probably should put it though another pass in the sonic cleaner

  2. The mirror! Maybe put some silica gel in there to get all the moisture out. Those old mirror compacts are notorious for desilvering with even a little moisture.

  3. You can add a pressed powder in it by using your regular pressed powder or a loose powder adding a little bit of alcohol mixing it together to form a paste and then smoothing it out and pressing it in there with a piece of paper towel remove the paper towel let it air-dry and you have a beautiful pressed powder I do with the Vintage compacts that I get from eBay all the time

  4. WOW!!!!! asbestos in the felt ??? Damn good lunch u followed babr. Your work is absolutely beautiful ty!!!

  5. Use like a sponge, almost similar to a "cushion fondation" I had a "travel setting powder" that was a compact but the loose powder was underneath the sponge, so a few dabs from a brush then to my face it gave just the perfect touch, to matify anything I needed. I can't remember the brand or id tell you.. and I wish I could remember bc I would buy another.. (But I reused the unit to DEATH) by just replacing the powder under the sponge. Then I got a little older and recognized how… unsanitary that probably was. 😅😢😮 How did we survive the 2000's 🫠😱

  6. I love seeing these vintage items getting a new life. I love old things but couldn't imagine what goes into cleaning them to use them again. I have old stuff but it's all in boxes put away. I don't want to ruin anything by cleaning it. I'm so uneducated when it comes to the care of those items I'm afraid I'll mess something up.

  7. As a 40-50s girl one I’m soo happy you’re getting into older compacts! But yes, keep the felt! And secondly it’s likely grease from the powder. smoke ect. so glad you got this beauty!

  8. Please tell me you wore a respirator when you were removing that felt😅

  9. So my brother and I collect a lot of vintage complex he has over 3000 from the early 20th century up until the 50s a lot of 1920s pieces as his whole house is 1920s art deco and he is the biggest collection of Clara Bow posters handwritten letters personal belongings. You should never put a vintage compact into the ultrasonic cleaner. The reason being you’re going to see this so-called foggy dirt, but it’s actually not. It’s the backing of the glass mirror by you using ultrasonic cleaner. You’re actually detaching the mirror from its original glue and setting and it will cause more rust and damage that’s why when you see certain compacts from the 20s and the mirror is smudged you can’t clean it. It’s because someone’s left it in water or let it in a damp exposed air

  10. I mean now you can give it to someone who still goes to the club and does blow 😂

  11. Honestly that was probably a lubricant in the hinges to prevent them from rusting. If it were me I'd get some kind of silicon spray or lithium grease and relubricate them

  12. The cloudy water could also be grease for the hinge so be careful to reapply it so nothing rusts and or gets stiff

  13. Exactly! Sonicate in Isopropyl or methanol for jewelry. Larger pieces may need 15-20 minutes to be fully clean, which is lab grade (I use lots of grease inbetween so it may be 7-10 to for commercial use)
