Let’s Work in the Garden! My Container Planting at the Cottage

Let’s work in the garden and plant my first container at Hill Cottage. A topiary of course! A pink encore azalea over 4’ tall. Hmmm. Now where will I put them?!

  1. I personally would never tie a shrub to a stake like that…. It will rub and damage the bark

  2. The redbud in front yard is beautiful. It will be so pretty to enjoy when sitting in your front room. Things are quickly coming together and the sidewalk looks wonderful. ????

  3. Happy birthday, Stewart ????????????
Thank you for sharing the steps in order of installation in your front yard – foundation trees, hardscape, irrigation lines, and then soil amendments. I think I've got it!
The fence behind you is a beautiful backdrop! Plants in pots are wonderful! They can be moved to a place that needs height and/or color. I've been amending and reusing old soil since I saw your post last year. I'm learning so much by watching your videos! Thank you!

  4. Looking forward to your next interior/homemaking video – they are a favourite!

  5. linda just a hint i use panty hose to tie stakes just cut in strips Maxi from OZ????

  6. Linda take that steak off and shove it down in the pot and then retired to the tree

  7. Linda, with all your energy you make me want to start my garden but it’s still to cold but I still have my plants inside and I just want to give them all my attention.

  8. I must tell you i watch your videos as much for your personal sense of style as for the gardening. I always felt a woman dressed casual in a baseball cap was so attractive. My compliments to you and the lucky guy in your life. You redefine retirement age.

  9. Happy Birthday Stewart. Linda where is the green repotting tray from. I can't believe those sneaky customers trying to find out what color the window box is.

  10. Love the front walkway, looks fabulous. Happy birthday Stewart ????????????

  11. Happy Belated birthday Stewart
I saw an opportunity for Linda Vater plant steaks in your QVC line

  12. Happy birthday Stewart love ur work and your comments hope u have a great day????????????

  13. Tip of the day….. when planting a tree form into a pot, place the empty container pot into new pit and place soil all around outer rim of original container and once all soil is around outside pull out original container and place tree form plant into void. No tipping of top heavy plant. Blessings my friend.

  14. Happy Birthday Stewart!! I had a boyfriend many years ago whose birthday was the first of April. He hated it and told everyone it was on the 5th. I think he must have suffered lots of April 1st pranks when he was at school.????

  15. If you place these azalea topiaries in their permanent spots and then use tree ties and stakes as you would for a baby tree, anchored into the ground (around the outside of the pots, not inside) in a triangular pattern, would that work to secure these without damaging their roots? It seems possible as a picture it. Obviously, it would need to be done in such a way as to not topple the pots. I think a three-way anchoring layout would keep that from happening. 🙂 No suggestion for location. I know you will choose a lovely place for them.
