  1. Reaper + Realearn allows very deep and customized controller integration. The only limit is the amount of time you want to spend designing and programming workflows but it’s well worth it, a few cheap midi controllers I already had laying around plus relearn have revolutionized my workflow

  2. Second hand Avid Mix over Eucon with Samplitude is plug-and-play, and tight as a gnat's a$$hole. Too bad it's obsolete now! Or rather, it worked, so had to be deprecated because Avid. Anyway, glad someone finally made a video addressing this ongoing issue.

  3. Let us also consider: The SSL Console is only good for the… SSL Console. And whatever series of console that was, it was. No option for numerous bus comps, or switching between console types. You had to slide to either end of the console to move faders or tweak an eq/comp.
The UF8 can work with any 3rd party plugin.
I think the gear looks awesome in your studio, but understand why it doesn't work long term for you. And in the case of your use, I agree with you. In the niche case of folks loved working on the SSL Console, this is a wonderful alternative. The 4KB for example was only sold to start via purchase of the UC1 but also to subscribers. SSL is thinking outside the box and being pretty inclusive of their base as they garner new users. Imagine if Audiotonix somehow made Slate Digital VMR accessible via the UC1. FG-S/N/A/Custom eq and FG-401etc. That'd be a cool way to use their combined companies and begin to integrate. Great video!! Cheers

  4. I think its hard to beat a mouse and keyboard but as a complement to that my Faderport single works great for me. Whenever I want to close my eyes and use a fader its always right there ready to go. Its also great for the transport controls, mute, solo, etc.

  5. At least in Cubase / Nuendo the UF8 does not follow the track selection on the screen. This makes the UF8 unusable. The UC1 will probably not follow either. Very sad.

  6. I’ve already worked this way in reason forever, unfortunately the UC-1 won’t work with it????, wud have been dream come true lol, but the new nektar like “P1” they just unveiled at namm looks like it’s finally going to be answer to reasons channel strip, really the first P1 was too, but new one has led color tips that match knobs on screen, looks like it could work great paired with any 8 motor fader controller, comes with 1 single motor fader too, I’m eagerly awaiting the release and reason support, cause it really is true, the traditional console workflow is best way to get mix in hand fast, and being able to do it hands on with knobs is paramount….also pretty sure SSL is developing daw in Area 51, and are planning on dropping bomb within next couple years, with these controllers n 360 already being in place, then creating daw I could see becoming new industry standard overnight lol

  7. I've been thinkin g of getting a cheap MIDI keyboard to help with my foley sessions so I can PLAY the sound effects (like footsteps, gunshots, punshes, wooshes, cloth passes …) using a sampler.
But then again, I'm not a musician. 🙂

The one I am thinking of getting has a HORRIBLY dated interface apparently.

Pulldown that go one for ever to set values instead of entry fields for example.

EDIT: God … watching you proper sound engineers (instead of hacky amateurs like myself) is just so humbling.

  8. So much is already possible with existing standards and a bit of thinking – the prospect of being locked into SSL in the same way people are locked into the likes of Avid and Apple makes for a horrifying (and unnecessarily expensive) future.

  9. if you want to work like its the 90s maybe this is good for your work flow. but combos like Ableton + the push solved this problem many many years ago for me. But I no longer work with bands so that helps haha

  10. SSL just bought Harrison company ( mixbus 32c ) so I gues there will be a future here

  11. I control all my plugins with the UF8 faders. I never use a SSL plugin.
I also work with analog gear. The UF8 and my analog gear is all in the same desk.
    daw: Cubase 12

  12. Everyone is chasing closed systems though 🙁 – it's the Apple Blueprint – who every succeeds will reap $ at the loss of choice for the end user.

  13. I have a MOTU AVB setup – it's amazing – I have 48 dedicated channels – but my god – is it painful not to have a hardware controller – they went with OSC … so no one supports it :/

  14. Behringer X-Touch works flawesly with Reaper + DrivenByMoss extension. You have gone to the pretty-usless option. Plus I do not mess with analog. I preffer to work harder in the digital path to get the same results.

  15. This SSL controller looks very interesting. On the other hand, to limit the integration to SSL software is just not a design that can be in the interest of an independent user. On the other hand it isn’t really true that an Avid console has been the only good DAW controller in the market. You said it yourself: mcu is a standard. The Logic Control is a really well made user interface and it cooperates perfect with Logic. There’s also a Logic Control App which allows to set any parameter in every plug-in in my DAW. I’m mixing a lot sitting on the producers sofa in the back of my studio and I enjoy to have such a nice workflow on my iPad. To me, the Logic or Avid control on the iPad is clearly the preferred interface.
