My Toughest Hydraulic Job Ever. DIY Advanced Hydraulics. JLG 80 HX Boom Lift

This hydraulic compartment has always loomed over me, like a mysterious monster that could rear its ugly head at any moment. In this video, I finally work through the system and figure out how to troubleshoot, test, and repair complicated hydraulics!

    Have an awesome weekend everybody!

  2. Didn’t catch anything you say, well it wasn’t because the wife let you take a nap and ignore the rod….haha. Very very nice, entertaining and interesting work on the hydraulics! Congratulations!
Now I’m gonna go see if I can find MY pressure relief valve and hopefully it will strengthen my shaft for in and out play….haha.

  3. I was shouting at the screen "activate the other direction so you notice what you're missing!" ???? Great video as usual.????

  4. 54:15 Guinness from a can? That's not a "Perfect Pour". Buy him a glass. And send him to Dublin, he's got some training to do !! ????
Once upon a time, on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, I was served a Guinness in a glass, but then the server popped a drinking straw into the glass.

  5. I can't be the only on sitting here watching, and smiling like a loon when it goes right for you, love this channel, got to be one of the best I watch on here,???? well done mate.

  6. You really pissed me off when your on the boom and it stopped . Amazing you had your rope with you . BS I"M OUT

  7. a shim is often used to raise pressure by pre-tensioning the spring, Just be careful of spring bind. Ive blown a few pumps/hoses etc. over the years because the pump could not release pressure, it happens. Paul Munroe Hydraulics service tech retired.

  8. man, that was one hell of a Sherlock Holmes case! I would have put a 12g slug through all those hydraulics after the first day!

  9. The real test will be, does it retrack in with your body weight in the basket. (max basket weight capacity)

  10. If it's worth anything, this armchair (non) mechanic l learned a thing or two about hydraulics in this video (and the whole rebuild series), and for that I am grateful!

  11. I feel you on not being able to get stuff, I too live in a small town and if the local hardware stores don't have it (One is mostly overpriced and the other is open banker's hours) it is an hour or so round trip or an Amazon order.

  12. Guess what! Guinness should drop some money at Jon, also because he's drinking one of the finest stouts in the world.

Great tutorial on hydraulic valves and pressure adjusting. And the sarcasm is the cherry on top. Cheers!

  13. I beg to differ…you are NOT done. Because you set her on FIRE, I still say you owe her a paint job….Blue or red are my choices. I bet you could find those springs for some other application. Dont forget rustoleum
    Glad you got her fixed!

  14. Did you drink Guinness out of the Can. Bad Farmer John. Really Enjoyed the Video and learned a lot on Hydraulics. Thanks John look forward to the next one

  15. Very nice work sir, what you did was a completely acceptable fix although it may be a sign that the spring is wearing out and possibly headed for breakage, it did possibly look like there were some shiny spots on the coils. Even though the spring wasn’t available through JLG I highly doubt they made the hydraulics anyway, so maybe going direct to the manufacturer (Parker, rexroth etc) would yield some results? Edit: your pressure settings will most likely drop if the oil wasn’t warm when you made your adjustments.

  16. Great work Jon – I guess your Guinness went flat however…….. enjoy your videos – very informative
