This is one job no one wants to do.
The HVAC guys don’t want to do it. The plumbers don’t want to do it, and the Electricians definitely don’t want to do it.
So can you guess what I’m doing?
I’m installing the ductwork for the range hood.
I had to cut a hole through this rim board to hook up the final section.
It was too tight here for the jig saw, so I finished the cut with my hackzall.
This hood will vent away smoke, steam, and grease from the gas range below it.
I temporarily set the 90-degree elbow in place so I could get a measurement for the last section of pipe I needed.
I’m not an HVAC guy, but I know enough to be dangerous.
When connecting ductwork you want to make sure the crimped ends point in the direction of the air flow.
I taped all the sections together with 3M 3340 Aluminum Foil Tape. I also insulated the duct so hopefully we won’t have any issues with condensation.
Always check the manufacturer’s specs so you know how far you can run, and keep track of the 90s because they count for extra distance.
Here’s the end cap I got for the soffit- it has an insect screen and rubber gasket to hold it in place.
I also installed a spring damper to keep the cold air out. Let me know in the comments- what do you think is the worst job to do in construction? @hausplans

Awesome legit work no half ass work, worked for a fireplace job and lemme tell ya im surprised we actually put heat resistant silicon for some sections because we never taped any section or anything tbh super shoty work but I could do or say anything I was just the apprentice glad I left that place though straight scumbags
Ooh brother. Are you fking using galvanized duct for a hood? Bro I really hope you understand grease gets in the ducts and if you don't seal those 90s eventually that house will catch fire.
Lmao not to code, need flume pipe
Got our kitchen done recently and this was the last and most suspenseful part. Huge hole in roof and tons of variables…
Tile; drywall; painting.
It’s HVAC job.
So much for the strength of that beam with such a large hole in it.
Aren’t you only allowed to remove 1/3 the height of the beam you cut the hole in?
Your doing the glory hole
Babysitting the boss's brat kid!
Drywall….worst ever
Insulation in remodel/flips
Dealing with lazy workers. That's the worst thing about construction💯💯
Survey says … cleaning up.
heat goes out the cold doesn’t get in its science
Worst job in construction? Removing the bodies from crawl spaces before installing the insulation and drywall.
i actually enjoy doing duct work on new homes. now doing it on an older house that’s never had ac, whole different story
I’m
Sitting in a hot tub watching this.. looks good to me

There are a number of jobs that you would think belong to a specific trade but the related trades avoid taking responsibility for. Funny thing is, if you ask them how it should be done, the licensed trades will tell you exactly what rules apply in specific detail. Yet they still avoid the task. So here is my theory. We, the sub trades, do the work the way the engineers say it should be done. We see problems. They don’t because they are not on site often enough to see or understand it. Yet, they are the final authority. So nothing changes except this. Someone does the undesirable task of stretching the rules and then vanishes into thin air. Kind of like your friendly neighbourhood spider man. Nobody knows his true identity. 😎
I used to do HVAC definitely an HVAC job
