Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. G'day Everyone, to add to my little chat (I had at the end of this video), thanks again for your ongoing support! I'm really proud of the gardening community here on YouTube you make it a pleasure to be a content creator and part of this "flourishing club" of online gardeners. Cheers 🙂

  2. You’re a top bloke Mark. You speak truth & you’re a genuine person.

  3. Nice to see you again Mark, and good to see the ongoing progress! I like the idea of a book, I bet you can make it very informative and entertaining!

  4. Whats really awesome is having a buddy on the other side of the planet sharing his skills…….????

  5. Heads up, Mark! Love your channel! Looking forward to your future videos! Greetings from the other side of the world (Belgium) 😉

  6. So glad you are back and that all is well! I'm definitely one of those who watches to the end!????

  7. At timestamp 6:40 I would like to let you know that your soil isn't the best quality. NOW I KNOW YOU ARE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE THAN A 20-YEAR-OLD OF COURSE. but on the other hand, my father and I on our farm use the dead leaves to churn it into the soil and I WILL BET YOU MONEY that in 2 years' time your dirt will become soil.

  8. Great video as always. Glad to hear your getting some help on the land. ????????

  9. I and my sweetheart have been enjoying your videos for years now, and good to see your video today! What you're addressing in the personal part of the vid is helping bring awareness to mental health, the necessity to sometimes take mental breaks, but also that real life doesn't always have to be recorded for everyone to see to be valid and valuable. We are really just beginning Spring here in the USA, and it's easy to forget how different your climate pattern is from ours. We don't live where too many tropical plants would thrive… but perhaps dwarf varieties would do okay in a greenhouse or something… Welcome back, by the way!

  10. I'm in college in America at a pristine university and I value so much from your work that I have been using your techniques on my farm since 2021. I love your videos so much that OUR university is using your videos to learn about sustainable farming. I wish you can see this so you understand your impact from across the globe. Let it be known that your videos are teaching university students here in America!!!!!!!!

  11. Glad you are back. Missed you. I'm so happy it wasn't a physical illness for your time off. Your enthusiasim and, for me, an accent makes watching and learning so enjoyable.????

  12. Hello Mark. Love your stuff. The Plastic Forests website is unreachable. Don’t know if this is a temporary glitch or a fatal error. Any chance of a similar product by a manufacturer in Europe?

  13. I discovered you between this video and the previous one, but have spent hours watching your catalog. I’ve now got my first personal garden set up in my backyard and I’ve looked forward to working on it every day at work. Maybe you’re getting tired now, no problem – you’ve collected and shared so much knowledge already, and that will never go away. Thanks! Will watch your next vid, and won’t mind any wait.
