Repair & Servicing Our 1970s International Yard Crane! | Fixing a Blown Head Gasket

Our 50 year old International 4030 Yard Crane hasn’t been sounding the best so it’s time to fix her up! We need to replace a blown head gasket and do a service by replacing all the oil and filters. First, we give it a wash down before disassembling everything to remove the cylinder head from the motor. We remove the injectors from the cylinder head before giving it a clean up. Then we install the new head gasket and reassemble the motor before replacing all of the coolant, oil and filters. After we get it fired up and the motor running, we check the rocker arms and valve clearances before finish assembling the rest of the parts back onto the motor. We’d say this was a successful job done to our Old girl and it’s going to be sad to see her go!

  2. I can't help but wonder….how much of that degreaser did Karen wear in the rinse process? ????

  3. Torque to spec with oiled threads? Always been a no-no in my neck of the woods

  4. I was Wondering all through this why you weren't doing any upgrades as you progressed because that's you're way………. found out why right at the end hahahahaa

  5. In the old days manufacturers would make that elbow on the coolant line out of steel not hose… they would add a valve to the bottom of the elbow and smart ones a hose bib open the valve hook op a hose and no mess… used two short pieces of straight hose to connect the metal elbow to the machine.. Allis Chalmers were good for this hack…

  6. Makes a guy feel good to give that motor a little love! Karen make Kurtis wear some Nitrile gloves when using chemicals!! Thanks for a good video!

  7. What about the radiator leak you mentioned? Are you going to do anything about that or are you just okay topping it off with coolant every couple of weeks?

  8. Love those old farm equipment type engines. So easy to work on. But they do come out with some odd ball size fasteners. A new crane? Congrats! Love the outtakes, I thought you were going to start doing some drifting there for a minute. Thanks for Sharing, all the best to you.

  9. Hey there. This Channel is Top Shelf. What’s your back story? Did you apprenticeship with a company?

  10. Love the 1/4 mile round the building before doing a bit of circle work out the back 😉

  11. I’m sorry, …… but that beast will always be the most hideous Frankenstein of machinery I’ve ever seen. ????????‍♂️????????‍♂️????
