If they removed all the paint with only a scraper they deserve a medal. That would take days if not weeks.

I have to wonder, could you attach the card scraper to a push-broom? Make it like a manual sander, or a plane with a very long handle?

not sure about in ireland but around here the period correct way to restore that deck would be dumping a hot bucket of pine tar right on top of the old finish and scrubbing it in all the cracks and voids. a layer of whats most likely lead paint covered in decades of annual tar refinishing used to be a common sight in the days when sailing was a career and not a hobby. now they use slippery coatings like epoxy and wonder why they're slipping and sliding all over the minute a little spray comes over the bow

Who. Thahell. Allowed that deck to be PAINTED!? Have they abolished capital punishment over there? Because that presents a nice case. That deck needs more than a scraper or a planer. It needs a good deal of oakum and tar. I wish I had the time and the funds to set that deck in order.

Dude that kinf of therapy would be so helpful for folks here in Louisiana! What a wonderful idea! The sea is a powerful healer and inspiration.

How does the sell go on that one? "Suffering from social exclusion? Why not try the sea! She's a harsh mistress, but she'll never reject ya…"

My favorite tongue twister seems appropriate at this time:

Esau Wood sawed wood. Esau Wood would saw wood! Oh, the wood that Wood would saw! One day, Esau Wood saw a saw saw wood as no other wood-saw Wood ever saw would saw wood. Of all the wood-saws Wood ever saw saw wood, Wood never saw a wood-saw that would saw like the wood-saw Wood saw saw wood would. Now Esau saws with that saw he saw saw wood.
