Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. G'day Everyone! So I got some bees… The ones that sting. Some might say a bit "bee-lated" but I think the timing is about right, well, we'll see how they go. Thanks for your support! Cheers 🙂

  2. Also…I wonder what kind of bees are those. Did Australlia have native bees?

  3. Peter the bee guy, that's funny. I'm from Latvia and my mom's brother is a beekeper and his name is also Peter and we call him the bee Peter haha. When my grandad passed, Peter was the one inheriting the farm and he always said he would never keep the bees as they are annoying. 10 years later he is a pro bee keeper even catching bees in the wild haha just like my grandad. I love honey, it's so much better for you than sugar. Also – incredibly good for colds!

  4. Honey! I'm home! ????

I like Belinda. My mom likes Beatrix, as a name for the ????

  5. I think Beelinda is a great name for the queen. Good luck on the new adventure

  6. Good day Mark! I have a suggestion for tbe Queen Bee's name. How about Dottie ('Dot', get it?)????

  7. I just started with bees. Nr 1. They should not be close to your poultry /animals. If an intruder bee come, they will attack anything. Better to move a bit away!
