This Coimbatore Home is Inspired by Dravidian, Chettinad and Colonial Design Styles

Located in a gated community in Coimbatore, this home was built by the architect as her residence. The existing villa on the site was brought down to give shape to this house heavily inspired by her memories.

Be it the traditional South Indian elements of temple architecture, her own Chettinad style ancestral house or the British Colonial design elements reminiscent of her school days, the architect has seamlessly blended all three design styles to bring this home together that compliments her lifestyle.

With elegant and bespoke interiors elements and a strong appreciation for art and artists, this house is a treasure trove of artifacts, furniture pieces, design stories and inspirations.

Climate responsive techniques, adequate access to natural light and ventilation, local art and craftsmanship and a harmonious design syntax are some key highlights of the project. The architect walks through the house, giving an insight into various design details and inspirations and how she worked out a fine balance between indoor and outdoor spaces.
