  2. yes they are gouging us. They were taken to court in Europe and lost against a case where they were found to be artificially keeping prices high by threatening wholesalers through unfair contract terms. I agree with your point about the cost of innovation, but, this is simple greed and corruption, not the true cost of innovation. At the end of the day all these tools are based on a motor and some sort of directional change mechanism. So when festool come to you after this video with a free tool to test, be brave and tell them to walk on 😉

  3. I don't own one of these tools so I really have no opinion on it. I do no they're extremely expensive though. However there's nothing that will get people to hate something so much as the arrogant behavior of the people who like it.

  4. Two comments. One: a Domino in the USA is roughly half the price we pay in Australia. Two: I’ve owned one for over ten years and it has paid for itself many times over. It does not do beautiful handcrafted joints, but it does make solid, functional joints – fast. The big one is just so perfectly suited to large projects, such as tables and beds. So call me a Festool fanboy. I’m not ashamed!

  5. The video at the end was hilarious and great job on the rest of it as well on point.

  6. Because Festool doesn't care about its customers' money. Speaking of their multitool machine…there are four different mounts: OIS, Starlock, Starlock Plus and Starlock Max.
All Starlocks are Bosch patents, for which a license fee must be paid… and even Bosch divides the system into "two worlds"… starlock plus only for entry-level models, and starlock max for more powerful – more expensive (you can think for yourself).
And Festool, of course, immediately implemented Starlock Max…but no other system fits it!!!…not even starlock and starlock plus!!!
    ONLY FOR EXPENSIVE ACCESSORIES!!!
Otherwise, e.g. Metabo and Makita have paid a license fee for the Starlock Plus on their latest tools, and changed the clamp to a pin that holds the blade. So their clamp accepts all types of Starlock… both the old Starlock, the newer Starlock Plus, and the "professional only" Starlock Max.
On top of that, their system is safer in the event of a tension spring break!
And one more thing… it's true that Starlock Max is faster and easier… but what about when it breaks down? …there is no possibility of your equipment falling to the floor or losing it (and you on a ladder, etc.).
It's similar with the Bosch X-Lock system for angle grinders… and try mounting e.g. Arbortech Ball Gauge, etc….they want to "catch" us in the way of razor+blades…no, no…only such and such are suitable…????????
They think that customers are stupid..similar to Apple..we don't like them for that, because they have a patronizing attitude towards their customers.????
Just got a Metabo MT 18 LTX BL QSL yesterday..and it will be much easier to find the right accessory of my choice for it.????
    Greatings from Slovenija

  7. For me it's the price, I wooden use it enough to justify the price, maybe if it were half the price. They do have really nice stuff but…

  8. I wish more of your links and discounts worked for your viewers around the world????

  9. I bought a Domino because it works brilliantly for what it does and what it's needed for. But then I use Ryobi tools because they are fair priced and drilling a hole is the same.

  10. Ha ha ha. It's not that I hate Festool, it's more that I can't even afford 2x4s right now. I think fancy tools like that are for 'pros' that are in a hurry and selling their furniture for lots of money. For hobby purposes it's actually more satisfying to use hand tools and take my time.

  11. Check out Norm Abram’s work…less tools than the average woodworker, excellent work.

  12. We use both versions of the Domino at our carpentry work shop, and they make a lot of stuff easier and faster. So I'm lucky that i have access to them when i need it for a private project, like all the other tools. Nevertheless, it would be much too pricey for my like if i would have to buy it myself. But if i make my own projects, i have time to use traditional technics

  13. Selling your liver and not your Kidney was a good plan … did you know at the time that you can at least regenerate your liver? It's the best option.

  14. I recently purchased some festool items because I required precision low vibration and excellent dust control more so than the robustness. I don't buy by brand but by what I need and yes do look toward quality. If there was an equivalent item that was cheaper – I would buy it instead.

Festool does strike me as being like Apple. Accessories and items that should be adjunctive to a main tool purchase are priced outrageously. I make that remark acknowledging how business operates and the requirement to recoup sunk costs.

I think the issue of preventing retailers from negotiating prices and such controls are where my Apple analogy really fits.
