This White Bread Sold Out in 2 Minutes! | Ginza Nishikawa Shokupan vs. Wonder Bread

When I read that a branch Ginza Nishikawa opened in the US, I immediately began researching how I could taste one of their famous $18 loaves of shokupan. Well, the shokupan has arrived and let’s compare it to the classic Wonder Bread.

Grandma made sandwiches out of delicious multigrain bread, Mom opted for Wonder bread in sandwiches. I used to sit there thinking "I wonder where they're hiding all that nutrition? I guess that's why it's called Wonder Bread "

Love, love shokupan bread! American bread does not even compare. I love slicing the bread myself – having a 2" thick slice of toast is wonderful. Unfortunately the closest place I can get this bread is 1-1/2 hour drive.

    Wonder Bread = BLUNDER bread!!
It's America's INSULT to good and nutritious bread!!
Even when my family was poor, my mother refused to buy that awful crap (WB) then,
and either baked her own or bought some good bakery bread then!

The shokupan looks very much like a bread we have in the UK. Warburtons toastie loaf. It’s dense yet fluffy and rich and great with butter

What a treat, morning coffee with such a positive person and my fav food- toast! I "wonder" if the toasting difference is the sugar content in the breads? Just looked at using a frying pan to toast- once I saw her toaster- which is basically a double sided frying pan. It looks to toast more evenly than a toaster—will try.

18$ to try it at least once I would if I lived near it, or was visiting the area, but I wouldn’t pay 42$ for overnight shipping, mostly cause I’m poor lol.

That sliceguide seems like the most useless gadget ever :'D By the time you cut a straight slice, you could have learned to do it without it.

????…a lot of artisan/freshly made breads available at farmer's markets are $12-15, so $18 isn't that much more… you can make it yourself for a whole lot less but it's quite a labor-intensive thing… mass produced bread just doesn't compare…

If I ever make a hit song and get offered any kind of deal, no matter how sketchy, I'd go for it. And this will be the headline.

I used to make bread but don't now. Empty calories. Only consistently made pizza dough. Then life kicks in, and no more bread making. I went back and can't make it anymore. I must drove over a bread fairy, because I'm cursed.

???? Are there any recipes for making Shokupan bread at home? Might not be able to fully replicate the square bread shape, but I’m sure it can be replicated in a home kitchen, I’d like to give it a try.

I can buy custom bake artisan bread with my initials for half the price …. No I don’t think it’s worth it …a loaf of white bread $18????
