The original fabric is in good condition…not very attractive, though. I think I would try the chalk paint leather dupe. If that doesn't work, THEN I'd reupholster them.
You could also do different colors on each chair to help you decide what color to upholster them.

The original fabric is a vintage girls dream!

    It’s me, I’m vintage girl! ❤

Maybe a floral or solid sage. I just think sage would be gorgeous with the color of stain on the wood.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Don't they check this designer stuff at thriftstores in the US? No way this (unfortunately!) would ever happen in Sweden where I live.Oh, and btw the chairs are gorgeous, no matter designbrand. The rounded shape at the front and the back thing ozes really good design!👌

Isn’t it worth more with the original fabric? Maybe just give it a deep clean.

Something chocolate brown would be so cool in your house. Maybe a stripe? AMAZING!!!

Super stoked for your find and super happy to see what comes next! Please do not change that upholstery tho! Take it off hand wash it, replace the padding underneath and put it back on. But for the love of God please don't change it?

Please get rid of the fabric and foam. You don't know what's under there! Hygiene!

Oh wow, keep the original fabric if you can clean them good. It is gorgeous.

Keep the original upholstery, clean then appropriately. DRY CLEAN THEM.

Lightly spray fabric with half and half vinegar and apply a good wood conditioner (if the fabric works with your decor). I would also research if the fabric iis original, if it isn’t change if you wish. Fun to find such a beautiful set that you’ll treasure every day.

I too love the original fabric. It makes it stand out from the regular plain or weird patterned furniture we see now and would make me want to buy it immediately.

Stroll through your favorite fabric shop. You'd be amazed what you see. Get some ideas. You could rent or borrow a steam machine and see how they turn out also? Decisions.
