Tips For A Moldy Front Loader

Moldy front loading washing machine? Here are some tips from a dry cleaner:

1) Always leave the door open, this will dry it out and prevent mold growth.
2) I like to wipe down the gasket with a towel. This will help the gasket dry out much quicker.
3) Run a sanitize or tub clean cycle with a washing machine tablet as needed.
4) Use a mold specific disinfecting spray if you need to treat certain areas.

I hope this helps!

If i never get a front loader ill never have to worry about mold issues 🤷‍♀️

If you have a mold problem on your front loader gasket, I would recommend just replacing the whole gasket. The replacement part comes to about ~$100 and the whole process is fairly straightforward (except the gasket springs, you'll need to looks for tips online). The mold treatment sprays/compounds won't be thorough enough, you won't be able to reach to the deep nooks and crannys. After replacement, just keep the door open and you'll be mold-free for life!

I'll shout it out on every front loader video you make, GE front loaders!!! Freshvent works like a CHARM. 3 year old machine smells like new, no open doors, no surprise cat attacks. Cleans great.

Also: for non-GE washer folks, there are 3D printed doodads you can get that attach to the latching mechanism to prop the door open.

Been using front load for years and never had issues. Stop using 5X recommended amount of detergent. Use warm or hot wash every once in a while. LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AFTER USE.

95% of mold issues can be prevented by simply leaving the door open. I've had front loaders all my life and never ever had mold issues. I leave the door open and use hot water (60C) every time i wash bedding and towels. About once a year i run an empty boil wash (90C) with citric acid to get rid of lime scale and that's it.

What about the top loader! I've been getting black and purple spots on clothing coming out of there😅, and I've washed w washing machine cleaner AND did another wash w vinegar and baking soda

The detergent compartment is where mine started to get mold not the gasket. Now I take the drawer out after using the machine and wipe it dry. There is a lot of water still in the drawer after.

Mine is second hand, I am ordering a new gasket now because I have not been able to keep the mould under control. I have to assume it has something to do with the model I have or the way it was used by past owners, because I never had this problem with past front loaders. I always keep the door open, wipe the gasket dry, and use sanitising cleaner twice a month.

I being a front loader washer for 20 years and I had 2 washers and never had mold in my old machine 17years and my new 3 years I always keep it open.

It can be a normal cycle
Too doesnt have to snaitize unless the machine is super gunky/smelly

  12. @colinf2316

Yeah anytime I say I love front loaders older people typically start listing all the "issues" with them.

I've had both types, front loaders are superior imo. They use way less water, and I just leave the door open after I'm done. Never had an issue with smell or mold.

  13. @RelaxedBearNA

Thank you for validating me. Mom always got on my case for leaving the door open. After I moved out, her washing machine smelled funky

  14. @Bag0505

It always surprises me that people need to be told to dry out or even clean anything where water is contained or used in🙄 People's IQ is seriously dropping on a mass scale.

  17. @ciopolo

what do you think about “baby safe” laundry detergents like Dreft? Is it any different from normal free and clear detergents?

  18. @honeyg3589

Every time I see you Miele setup, I feel the pangs of regret at not waiting to buy that brand (they were completely out of stock for a while in my area😭).
