So do you butcher and rotate your stock or do they become domestic non producing pets?
The cost of having chickens for eggs solely ISN'T cheaper.
I've had chickens forever, from just a couple, to 20-30 ish egg layers.
Hit cost more to have them. than to just go out and buy the eggs.
That being said. They are fun, you keep busy. The eggs are super fresh. And they are good bug patrol plus give you good manure.
I think personally, you should only get chickens if you like them, and the eggs are just a good plus.

I was hoping to see the new chicks already! When are they cominggg?
I don’t keep chickens ( yet) but live in a community with local eggs farms that keep their chickens free range and fed organic foods in addition to foraging. Not cheap but as good as the eggs I use to get from a friend that kept chickens. I can’t eat the regular store bought from factory farms. The yolks are so pale it makes me think the chickens are not healthy.
What did you dust them with to rid them of the mites and lice? Would you use something like diatomaceous earth or an actual pesticide like permethrin? Great information thank you for the video.
Eggs are $2.63 for a dozen large here. That doesn't sound crazy to me.

We've had two hens live past 10, another almost made it. While their egg-laying did slow down, the oldest had stopped completely around year 7, but started up for two years after that.
