Weightlifting Belts…Should You Wear One?? (BEN POLLACK) | MIND PUMP

Weightlifting Belt

For Powerlifters

For the squat and deadlift: How Important Is Bracing??

How important is bracing and using your core effectively in the squat and deadlift?

– Pull your shoulders over your hips
– Do A LOT of Upper Ab Work
– Bear down and contract upper abs
– Pull your shoulders over your hips
– Pull your hips under your shoulders
– If you struggle contacting your lower abs use:
– Resisted leg lowers, decline crunches, hanging leg raises…
– Once you engage upper and lower abs, now you need to generate intra-abdominal pressure
– Take a deep breath into your diaghram

– Using a belt may be very very helpful
– It can provide a kinestetic cue
– If you’re using the belt correctly, you’re using the abs just as hard as you would without the belt
– If you use the belt as a crutch, then it will take away from yourself

Lever Belt vs Buckle Belt

– Belt placement is crucial

  1. 9:21 i find my transverse working out of the bottom of the squat, believe it or not. like i can literally feel belly button area being sucked in slightly. is this normal? a sign of improper form? i don't focus on breath and bracing. but i've noticed i naturally take in a breath as i start my descent and hold the air in til squat is complete.

  2. I have to say that, this is the best video I have found, regarding using weightlifting belts/powerlifting belts.
    Thanks for the information.

  3. You should train both with and without it imo. Without belt because you will strengthen your lower back faster that way, and with it because you want to feel comfortable with a lifting belt during competition.

  4. Serious question? At what point is this just placebo? Don't you arch your mid/ low back before your descent anyway? Seems like all that setup just gets ignored once the squat starts

  5. does 3 camera angles really necessary? jeez he must be dizzy right after this vid!

  6. BIg Ben great video 🙂 😉 😉 Great Information, but sometimes we the viewers are wondering which camera are you looking at, seems you are a little confused, BUT you are fantastic, motivating me to train hard at my Gym in London East called Kings Gym 🙂 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉

  7. 19k views!!? Should be 19m! Very very informative. Absolutely great advice. BP is a fantastic.

  8. This video should’ve been called “how to brace” one of the most important aspects to lifting heavy 🙋‍♂️
