What Europeans Think of American Construction

This is what European’s think of American construction.
I’m going to build my house with cheap pine sticks.
First, I lay off the walls- 16” on center. I refuse to use the metric system even though it makes more sense.
Every board gets at least one nail, and no noggins. I don’t even know what a noggin is.
I’m using an entire piece of 2×4 for my window header- this’ll be super strong, which is important because we get hurricanes and tornados at least once a month everywhere in America.
All this work has made me hungry, time for a light snack.
Now it’s time to stand this wall- almost no flex; then, I secure it with two nails.
Next, I head outside to install the siding. I’m going with solid cardboard because it’s cheap and easy to install.
I fasten it with heavy gauge 5/16” staples and don’t worry about the seams I’ll seal those with duct tape.
This wall should last until we get a tornado next week.
Finally, I put paper up on the interior. This is so much better than using bricks.
A job well done! Time to go home for the day. @hausplans

Apparently walls in Europe are made 18” thick with concrete made in an ancient volcano, with ground unicorn horn mixed in. My question though is: What did the new guy think of that wall?

All I'm saying if Europe got half the tornadoes the us gets they'd be building the same kinds of houses

My dovetail log home may suck to heat in the winter but at over 100 years old its still solid

I once commented on a British construction page that American construction is definitely different but still very strong and recived actual death threats over it😂.

Balkaner here, I wouldn't be picking on American Houses as much if they had diagonal [cross] bracing and proper load-bearing timber posts.. oh… and if American Houses didn't cost an arm and a leg while the entire justification for being built so poorly is "It's cheaper". If it's cheaper – then the house should be cheaper!

Makes sense because how else would americans justify their guns if they cant even shoot thru a house hahaha

Americans have homes… It's that simple. The only way you get a home in Europe is if you're upper class or you inherit it. The North American model also allows for better insulation methods, changes and improvements down the line, hidden utilities etc. It's not like we can't build the same way, but most people prefer the cost savings, and advantages to a typical North American build. Also far better engineering goes on (as in its not overbuilt), and so there is far better utility and use of raw materials.

I just to remind film with two American tourist who takes a room in european hotel and they try to brake a wall with their heads like in USA… it's ends in hospital with concussion.. this tells smth about Americans… buildings of corse 😀
