When a diamond ring is “too boring”

Carly inherited this 1950’s era ring but was bored of it— she’s got too much family jewelry already! I popped the diamond out and turned it into a chic halo pendant that she’ll actually wear. From outdated heirloom to fresh sparkle. I kept the old ring in tact. What would you do with it? Tradition or transformation?

  1. What a flex, so much jewelry clogging up drawers 😂. I've always wanted a diamond set of earrings and bracelet…one day 🙂

  2. Maybe it’s time to pass all that jewelry on to other family members.

  3. It pains me that we don’t have this tradition here in Brazil. We’re not much of heirloom jewelry. Or at all. And diamonds are very expensive. Mostly couples only wear their wedding bands on different hands during engagement and switch to the left one after the wedding.

  4. Sounds like a family that doesn't appreciate anything. She's overburdened with a bunch of diamonds but some people aren't eating. This world is backwards.

  5. I would have sold the ring or atleast the diamond because I find the yellow colour hideous.

  6. Good way to keep it going for decades to come. She can even put another stone in the ring and pass it down to two people rather than one.

  7. This is ending up to be me,im not even rich just from a very big italian family ,the only girl born in it in the younger generation and all of my aunties hate their daughters in law so much for some reason they died leaving their jewellery to me instend of their sons 😭 i tried giving back but there are hard feeling at play here.

So im thinking about doing something like this in the future cause i never wear the jewelry ,i appreciate the ideas youre giving

  8. We really don’t need to be judging what people want to do with their own possessions. I like what you did! And yes, a lovely dark hued gem for the ring. Emerald, sapphire or maybe a ruby.

  9. The pendant looks gorgeous, that halo really helps that yellow tinted diamond shine in ways that ring couldn't.

The ring looks a bit basic, like a catalog ring someone may have mass produced. The diamond, while pretty, wasn't giving the pop it needed. If she wants to do a different stone, maybe something cool colored like Emerald or sapphire. It would give a nice color pop while making it more unique.

  10. Sometimes I believe in keeping old jewelry as is, my I have pieces now that someone in the 50's/60's maybe changed from things like cuff links or dress clips into two rings. They're gorgeous and now my cousin and I both have jewelry.
