25 Replies to “Why do Italians Never Break Spaghetti?”
I never break pasta. When I was a kid, my brother and I would see who could twirl the most amount of buzghetti onto our forks and fit it into our mouths. Sadly, at 56, I still do the same thing 😂. My wife loves it when I do that.
I break the pasta because I hate eating it long. It is easier for me to eat and there is no difference with the sauce. Spaghetti is my least favorite pasta though.
Parsta..😂
Still genuinely don't understand why folks STARTED breaking pasta in the first place… And I'm a white american.
"It's important to do things the right way" proceeds to twirl his spaghetti in A SPOON
I like the way the spaghetti he made looked! And any Italian dishes he makes I’m there! Hey Chef Andy Great Paisano keep it up!🇮🇹🇺🇸🤌🏻
This is one of the stupidest "nonna no nos". Its the same surface area if you break them and its far easier to eat because you can literally shovel it in. I break my spaghetti and then cut it down further with fork and knife and I am not ashamed
Ding it I always break it in two 😂😂😂
Who breaks pasta ?? If I ever did that I would of ended up in my uncles trunk
Still blows my mind that anyone would break their pasta, I'm a brit but I grew up with you always let it fall around the rim and it'll sink into the water as the bottoms softens.
I just assumed Italians would have a type of pasta for whatever dish you could ever cook. If you have a dish or even invest a dish that requires a specific type of pasta… the Italians or Chinese have probably already invented it. But each to their own I guess.
Never in my life have I ever seen or heard about someone breaking their pasta…
PASTA IS YUCK!!!
My siciliana nonna always broke her pasta in half. It’s not a rule at all lol. Only weirdos on the internet care about it and even usually then it’s just for content.
I think its nicer, but i always break it as its so much easier to cook 🤷
This guy spews a lot of crap, cook your pasta however you like, because at the end of the day, it's your food, you have to eat it, not this guy, and not some Italian nana.
Mathematically, breaking pasta will increase the surface area for the sauce to stick to it.
gonna start breaking pasta to spite this one guy i know and can't stand, thanks for reminding me Andy
Counterpoint: It's fine.
Why didn't I ever think of just pulling the noodles straight out of the water and into my sauce… Am I stupid
Do Italians twirl their pasta on a spoon like that?
Honestly they’ve taken it too far. It doesn’t seem like it’s about love or tradition and mostly just seems like it’s gate keeping now. “Xyz dish no have xyz ingredient!!!!!”. Ok then I won’t call it whatever dish it’s based on and I’ll just call it up Italy’s ass.
That's why i invested in a spaghetti casserole 😊
Do what rocks your boat. Eat it like you want to. And that about sticking to longer and not to shorter pasta is nonsense. Just think about it. And what's right or wrong?

And what's right or wrong?
No, I never wondered. Why would you break it??
