Oil paint is simple. At its most basic, it’s just a mixture of oil and pigment. But depending on the color and quality, a liter of this paint could cost you $285 to $1,100.
While the rise of oil paint is associated with the Renaissance, paintings using poppy-seed oil have been dated as far back as seventh-century Afghanistan. So what is it that makes this paint so special? And why is it so expensive?

Why Oil Paint Is So Expensive | So Expensive
Good ol Joe made rustoleum triple in price for a galleon of oil base.
THANKS JOE
Now try printer ink at £1,000 per litre.
Thats not expensive. Buy saffron or. Inkjet printer ink. Imagine if bic sold ink refills that way
We ran out of mummies to use because 12th century Europeans ate a lot of them lol
Why oil paints are costly?
Cuz the companies are greedy. That's it!
just get flat paint and add half a quart of motor oil.
In Austin, Texas, occasionally University of Texas students will take an art class for a semester and then get tired of it. And at the end the year, when mom and dad come to pick them up, if it doesn’t fit in their vehicle, it gets tossed. I used to dumpster dive in May and find all sorts of treasures, including full tubes of pigmented paints.
Been waiting for my mummy brown for years, all to discover they ran out of mummys..
It's like that fake Mayonaise they sell everywhere .. just oil and other stuff
mummy brown made from egyptian mommies. Talk about respecting the dead.
Forbidden whipping cream
Expensive for some people, but not for me. I could buy as many tubes as I want. Easily.
I'm looking at the thumbnail and I only want to eat it
Just don't hang artwork in direct sunlight my dudes
What really gets me is the human eyes perception is different for everyone. There are color scale tests you can take with extreme results being the various levels of colorblindness. So, not everyone even perceives these beautiful, expensive pigments the same.
I use Winsor & Newton Oils for weathering model trains.
I'm Mexico I fact the oil painting tube is very cheap, in average 2.5 dollars for the biggest tube of 400 milliliters, the problem is that most of the people pay very cheap an oil painting on canvas, and sometimes they don't want to pay you even for the cost of the materials. It's a pity.
Some day will purchase the biggest bottles of winsor and newton oil colours😭✨that is richness 🙇🏻♂️
this is the part where you say "I can't believe its not butter"
tell me how acrylic paints are made۔
My favorite color is carrot
Ah yes, artistry. The profession that takes the essence of life itself to create beautiful works of art to hang on your wall. Remember never to mess with a passionate painter, you may just end up being used as their red paint on the next piece they make.
