Step 1: Don’t pick them
Don’t try to remove blackheads either with your fingernails or with any kind of instrument. Both can lead to infection and scarring.

Step 2: Steam your face
Boil a medium pot of water, add a few drops of tea tree, eucalyptus, or lavender essential oil, and place it on a table. Sit with your face over the pot for five minutes, with a towel draped over your head to trap the steam. The combination of steam and those particular oils will loosen existing blackheads. Repeat weekly.

Warning
Keep your face at least 12 inches from the water to prevent burning.

Step 3: Wash your face
To prevent future blackheads, wash your face daily with warm water and a mild soap or cleanser that is color- and fragrance-free.

Tip
Replace your face cloth with a natural sea sponge, which exfoliates skin better.

Step 4: Moisturize
Slather on an over-the-counter moisturizer containing the collagen-booster retinol every night after you wash your face. If you have sensitive skin, only use it every other day.

Tip
Retinol increases skin’s sensitivity to the sun, so use a sunscreen with SPF 30 daily.

Step 5: Clean up your makeup act
Always use oil-free foundation, never put makeup on a sweaty face, remove makeup at night with a cleanser that contains glycolic acid, and clean makeup brushes and sponges with baby shampoo monthly.

Step 6: Put on a mask
Use a facial mask once a week. Clay masks are especially good for drawing impurities out of pores.

Step 7: Go to a pro
If new blackheads keep developing, consider going to a dermatologist for a medical facial.

When it comes to household versatility, baking soda is king. Here are just some of the many cleaning uses for sodium bicarbonate.

Step 1: Remove stains
Get rid of stains on countertops, sinks, bathtubs, and any nonporous surface you can think of with a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Apply the paste to a damp sponge, scrub away, and rinse.

Tip
Baking soda works well on metallic surfaces, like chrome or stainless steel. It won’t scratch the surface, but it’s abrasive enough to remove residue and leave the metal shining.

Step 2: Reduce odors
An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator or a cupboard will absorb odors and excess moisture. A sprinkle in shoes and socks helps reduce foot odor. To combat a stinky carpet, drizzle with dry baking soda and vacuum it up after 15 minutes.

Tip
Using a bowl instead of an open container is more effective because more baking soda is exposed.

Step 3: Deter ants
Ant infestation? Sprinkling equal parts baking soda and salt near high-traffic ant areas will keep them in their place.

Step 4: Unclog drains
Pour half a cup of baking soda into a clogged drain, followed by a cup of white vinegar. Let the solution bubble for a few minutes, and then flush it down with plenty of hot water. This method won’t clear heavy-duty clogs, but it works well for minor ones.

Step 5: Keep laundry bright
Add a half-cup of baking soda to a load of wash along with your regular detergent. It helps keep clothes brighter, longer.

Step 6: Wash brushes and combs
To remove oil and dirt from hairbrushes and combs, first remove excess hair; then soak in a tall container of warm water with a teaspoon of baking soda.

Step 7: Reduce bug-bite itch
To reduce itching, mix baking soda with just enough water to make a paste, and apply it with a cotton swab to the bug bite. The paste can also help relieve a painful sunburn.

Step 8: Whiten your teeth
Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda onto a wet toothbrush to clean and whiten your teeth naturally. Practice this method sparingly, as it will wear down your enamel if used too often.

How to glute kickback with a bent knee. So, here you’ll be either on a mat or on the floor on all fours. You’re going to make sure that your shoulders are aligned with your wrists. They’re out of the ears, not all crunched up and we’re going to start off with one leg. You’re going to keep the foot flexed, the knee bent at 90 degrees. You’re going to think about pressing that heel up to the ceiling. So, you can take it down and then press it straight up. Really squeeze your butt. Press that heel up as high as you can, almost think about putting your footprint on the ceiling. So, you take it down and up, down and up.

Really make sure here that your abs stay engaged. They stay nice and tight. Think about the belly button being pulled to the spine to prevent injury. If you don’t, you’re going to start arching that back and you can throw your back out if you’re doing the exercise like that. So really make sure the abs are nice and tight.

You take that knee down and then push it straight up, footprint on the ceiling. Same thing, other side. Foot is flexed. Take it up. Down. Up. Down. So you can do about 10 to 12 on each side. Switch it up. However many you’re feeling. You’re going to feel this from the first few because it’s really going to focus on isolating each glute. So, also, you want to make sure that your body weight stays on the side that you’re working. So if you’re working your right side, you’re going to focus on keeping that body weight on the right side. When you get tired, you tend to shift your body to the other side and that loses the tension in that glute that you’re working. So, a tip I usually give is to bring both hands together on whichever side you’re working and really focus that tension on that glute that you’re working. And that’s how you do a glute kickback with a bent knee.

Get a leg up on the competition with these wardrobe tips.

Step 1: Head to the petite department
Head to the petite department, where clothing is tailored for women 5-foot-4 and under, regardless of their weight. Or shop in vintage stores; clothing from the ’40s and ’50s was often tailor-made for shorter woman.

Step 2: Dress in one color
Dress all in one color; it will make you look taller.

Step 3: Wear V-neck tops
Wear tops that draw attention up and away from your legs: V-necks, halters, small shoulder pads, and necklines with beading or trim. Avoid tops that end at your hip bone; they can make legs look stubby.

Tip
Never wear a pattern or print that is bigger than your fist.

Step 4: Choose the right pants
Wear wide-leg trousers to elongate your frame. Pair heels with them, with the pants hem reaching almost to the bottom of your shoe. Avoid cropped pants, which make short legs look even shorter.

Step 5: Wear certain dresses
Choose dresses over skirts to create an unbroken vertical line. Flattering styles include Empire dresses and V-neck wrap dresses with a high waist; both lengthen your bottom half. Dresses should end either slightly above the knee or be ankle-length; anything in between will cut your silhouette in half.

Step 6: Be a heel
Wear backless footwear with dresses; they create one long, unbroken leg line. Avoid shoes with ankle straps for the opposite reason; they’ll cut you off just where you need the illusion of length. And remember: Platform heels are your best friend.

What’s better than a biscuit hot from the oven? Make a batch tonight with this easy recipe.

Step 1: Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2: Mix dry ingredients
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl.

Step 3: Add butter
Mix the butter pieces into the flour mixture with your fingers until the texture is coarse.

Step 4: Add buttermilk
Stir in the buttermilk with a fork until the mixture is a moist, sticky dough.

Step 5: Knead the dough
Turn the dough onto a flat, lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times. Then, flatten it with your hands and a lightly floured rolling pin until it’s an even half-inch thick.

Step 6: Cut out rounds
Using a lightly floured biscuit cutter, cut out as many rounds as you can. Put them on an ungreased baking sheet, spaced two inches apart. Then re-knead the leftover dough so you can squeeze out a few more.

Tip
If you don’t care about uniformity, just cut out rectangular sections of the dough with a floured knife.

Step 7: Glaze the tops
Brush the tops of the biscuits lightly with the beaten egg.

Step 8: Bake
Bake until golden brown on top, about 15 minutes. Serve warm with lots of butter!

1. Stand in a push-up position with your feet out wide.

2. Descend into a push-up until the same side pec is just off the floor. Keeping your opposite side shoulder slightly elevated if necessary for better balance.

3. Press strongly back up to full arm extension.

4. Repeat for the recommended number of reps and switch to the opposite side.
