What Happens to Luggage When Nobody Takes It

What Happens to Luggage When Nobody Takes It

Sometimes it feels like a race. You make it to the airport of your destination, but your check-in baggage doesn’t. So what if there’s a lonely suitcase spinning on the baggage carousel even after all the travelers have left the airport?

However sad it may sound, each unclaimed bag has a person it belongs to. And right now, this poor owner is most likely at another airport, complaining about their luggage getting lost on the way. And the abandoned bag you see on the carousel has either been diverted to the wrong plane, or lost altogether due to some confusion. So let’s figure out what happens to it!

SUMMARY:
– When it becomes obvious that no one is going to claim a bag, the airline tries to find out who it belongs to. In most cases, all they need to do is to look at the bag tag.
– But let’s say there’s no identifying information on the suitcase. In this case, the airline keeps the bag at the terminal where it arrived, and waits for about 5 days for the owner to claim it.
– Each air carrier has a central warehouse, and that’s exactly where the lost suitcase goes. It stays there for around 2 more months.
– The bag and everything inside could be donated to charity.
– The airline company holds an auction. In this case, large companies (which are the main buyers at such auctions) buy tons of unclaimed baggage.
– Every minute of delay costs an airline company hundreds of dollars. That’s why, before reaching the conveyer belt, your bag may be repeatedly thrown around for up to 60 ft.
– On top of that, baggage handlers usually pack suitcases as if playing a game of Tetris. They squeeze bags of different sizes and shapes together so that they form a solid wall of baggage.
– Airport staff tends to treat two-wheeled suitcases worse than four-wheeled ones.
– When talking about baggage, most people tend to forget about things which aren’t actual bags, such as strollers, car seats, and the like.
– Only a few bags come with their own luggage tags; in most cases, people have to buy additional tags so that their luggage can be identified should it get lost.
– Airport staff has such limited time to get bags loaded and unloaded that they pay little to no attention to brands or how expensive a suitcase is.
– If you’re in the habit of overpacking your suitcase, making it extremely heavy, keep in mind that heavier bags are usually placed at the very bottom when they’re loaded on the plane.
– One of the most irritating things for a baggage handler is numerous luggage tags on a bag or suitcase.
– Children’s luggage is by no means handled with more care than that of adults’.

SUMMARY:
– Trees, buildings, and utility poles will act as lightning rods for you, so never stand close to them.
– Even if you’re dressed warmly enough, there are always some parts of your body left exposed to cold weather. A simple can of petroleum jelly will help you with that.
– Magnetize a needle by rubbing it against a magnet, then put two pieces of floaty stuff you have on both sides of a needle. Let it float in the water and it will eventually stop in one direction.
– Garlic, rosemary, mint or thyme – all of these herbs’ smell will scare away all the pesky insects around.
– Tie a scrolled piece of cloth around your leg and go through the high grass in the morning. It will collect dew that you can squeeze out into a bottle.
– You’ll need a 9-volt battery for that. Simply putting both contacts of this battery against a piece of steel wool leads to a small short circuit spark that spreads right away.
– Turn the clay pot upside down and place it on top of the rod so that it hangs in the air. Place some candles around the rod and light them up. The heat from candles will get trapped under the pot.
– You can use any source of natural fat instead of wax, and you can use a simple paper tissue or toilet paper to make a wick.
– Put the end of the wire into the keyhole and bend it at a right angle, then pull it out a bit and bend in the other direction. Then stick it into the very edge of the keyhole following all the bends.
– If you spotted a shark in the water, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to attack. If it passes by in the distance in a straight line, you have all the chances to calmly get away to the beach.
– Move slowly and always leave an escape route for the bear. Try to make yourself look bigger than you are – spread your coat wide, stand on your tiptoes, but don’t be aggressive.

#factsyouneverknew #amazingfacts #brightside

SUMMARY:
– Ever paid attention to those metal or plastic tips on the ends of your shoelaces? They’re called aglets. They appeared in ancient Rome, where people made them out of glass or stone.
– When the first computer mice appeared, producers referred to them as turtles.
– The popular toy has been around for over 70 years, but there’s more to the Slinky than stair-time fun (and lots of tangles): its older metal version used to serve as a makeshift antenna for engineers and soldiers.
– A US 1-dollar bill usually lasts for only 18 months – after that, it must be withdrawn from circulation and replaced.
– T-shirts were invented at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1904, Cooper Underwear Company advertised them as a perfect product for bachelors who couldn’t sew or reattach buttons to their shirts.
– In 1957, engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes decided to seal two shower curtains together with tiny bubbles of air stuck in between. It was supposed to be a cool new idea for a wallpaper!
– When a stand-alone eraser appeared in 1916, it was made mainly of rubber and pumice. Pumice could be white or red, and the color of an eraser depended on the hue of this volcanic rock.
– Electric fans don’t actually cool the air. What it does do is cool your skin! The device speeds up the evaporation process, making sweat on your skin colder.
– Rice is the product people have been cultivating for the longest time: from 12,000 to 15,000 years. It first appeared in ancient China’s Pearl River Valley thousands of years ago.
– You might have noticed that some cables have chunky cylinders on them. These cylinders are called ferrite chokes. Without them, cables turn into antennas that can pick up and broadcast electrical interference.
– George de Mestral, the Swiss inventor of the popular quick fastener, once noticed how burs would stick to his dog’s fur and his own pant legs. This inspired him to come up with an idea of creating the same effect for fabric.
– Barbie saw the light of day in 1959. And in the 1960s, the legendary doll got a fictional biography published in a series of novels.
– Despite what I used to believe, barcode readers aren’t reading the black parts of the code but the white ones!
– In 1493, Christopher Columbus brought some pineapples to Europe. It became a symbol of status, and people who couldn’t afford to buy one, rented pineapples for a night to show them off at their parties!

19 Times No Need to Pay for an Upgrade

19 Times No Need to Pay for an Upgrade

Most people believe if they pay more for an “upgraded” versions of some product, they get better quality as well. Unfortunately, this rule doesn’t work every time. Take, for example, organic food. Some of them can be 300% more expensive than other foods and drinks. But do you know that if a product is covered with skin, like bananas or avocados, you can safely buy non-organic ones?

Another example: opting for a higher Internet speed. Some Internet providers offer blazing-fast home Internet. But unless you’re a professional online gamer, you don’t need such speeds, and paying extra for this service is a waste of money. So how about we figure out if there’s any need to pay more for an extended warranty or a big helping of French fries?

SUMMARY:
– Dermatologists warn that bigger SPF numbers are more harmful to your skin.
– An extended warranty typically lasts for three years. And experts say that today, appliances and gadgets rarely break down during this period.
– Fashion experts recommend mixing items from different price categories and investing in something high-end only if you can wear it often and with different outfits.
– Tastes change, you might want to start a renovation, and then you’ll have an additional headache of trying to sell your massive furniture.
– The average economy-class ticket is 7 times cheaper than the one in first class. Ask yourself if the advantages of spending several hours of your time in a more comfortable seat are really worth it.
– If you have hot meals brought to you at least several times a week and pay a couple of dollars plus tips for each delivery, it makes up a hefty sum at the end of the month!
– A traditional vacuum is much more cost-efficient, even though you have to spend some time and effort to operate it.
– If you don’t visit the gym regularly, choosing a luxury one is just flushing money down the drain.
– Experts claim that there are no advantages in using premium gas: it doesn’t make your car run faster, there’s no fuel economy, and it doesn’t affect the volume of emissions.
– Buying jewelry can be a great investment — but only when you buy natural emeralds, diamonds, rubies, and other precious gems.
– If you’re in doubt whether you should order a medium or a big helping, opt for the smaller size. The difference in price looks tiny, that’s why you might think that you’ve got yourself a good bargain by paying less for more food.
– In most cases, all the difference between coffee you make at home and coffee from a new fancy coffee shop is in its price.

Jordan Peterson has hundreds of hours of interviews and lectures on YouTube but with so much volume it can be tough to distill the essence of his life philosophy. And to make things even more difficult, he sometimes uses abstract language like this. It’s within the individual that redemption can be… manifested, let’s say. And even in so far as the state is concerned because the state’s proper functioning is dependent on the proper functioning of the individual rather than the reverse, most fundamentally.

That is actually the most concise explanation of his life philosophy that I’ve heard but what does it mean concretely? Well, today we’re going to break down the three things that you should and should not in order to live an exceptional life according to Dr. Peterson. And I’m going to simplify as best as I can in order to keep this simple to understand; forgive me for that Dr. Peterson. Also, at the end, I’m going to get some concrete actions to you that you can take today in order to move forward on each point.

How Airports Actually Make Money

How Airports Actually Make Money

Before you fly off to your long-awaited vacay, you have one task: get to your gate without giving in to the airport’s sly ways of separating you from your money! Think you can do it? Well, it all starts in the parking lot. We all know that parking at the airport costs a fortune. Do you know how you can pay less? There’s always a trade-off between cost and convenience.

The airport doesn’t want you to just sit or sleep in the waiting area at your gate until it’s time to board – they want you on your feet and exploring. They don’t announce boarding times until the last minute. Why tell all passengers on a certain flight that they’ll be leaving in an hour when you can cut that warning down to 20-30 minutes so that they spend more time in the stores?

SUMMARY:
– Airports encourage you to arrive early to clear security checks and not miss your flight. But chances are you’ll have loads of free time, so you’ll just end up hanging out in the cafes, shops, and restaurants until boarding time.
– If you’re right-handed like 90% of the population, then you instinctively look to the right as you walk through curves leaning to the left. And before you know it, you find yourself in one of those cool-looking shops on the way.
– You might also find that you’re drawn to the stores with access to direct light. Those big windows everywhere sure help!
– When it comes to walking around the airport, carpets create a calming effect that hard flooring doesn’t. Studies have shown that relaxed passengers spend 7% more at retail stores and 10% more at duty-free.
– Remember that as you’re lying on that massage table getting your muscles smooshed around, you’re vulnerable to all kinds of sales talk about this salon’s other amazing services… that you can get for a price!
– If you want to dine in at a restaurant instead of packing a security-approved lunch, consider coupon sites. Just call the restaurant in advance to confirm they’ll accept it.
– You’ve resisted many temptations, and you’re finally approaching your gate. But what’s that? Last-minute retail offers? No, don’t be so relaxed to the point you end up unexpectedly spending AGAIN when you’re so close to your goal!
– If you’ve got a long delay and it’s time to eat, try to figure out where the airport cafeteria is. I’m talking about the one where employees go. Even if it’s far from your departure gate, it’s still worth it.
– Airport currency exchange booths – how convenient! But you’ll pay the price for such a convenience.
– Don’t rush into that souvenir shop either! Again, wait until you get settled in the city or wherever you’re vacationing.
– Alright, it’s time to head back home from your European vacation. Did you manage to get lots of goodies to bring back home? Those purchases likely included the standard VAT (or Value Added Tax). Don’t forget to go to the VAT Refund Counter at the airport!

6 Buttons That Actually Do Nothing

6 Buttons That Actually Do Nothing

So, you tap a button and something happens — that’s how the world works, right? Well, not exactly. The world is actually filled with buttons that are only there to seem like they do something, while in fact being useless. And not only buttons — there are all kinds of things that are there for no apparent reason.

If you live on, say, 15th floor and you’re in a hurry to get home because your bladder is about to burst, for example, you’ll probably feel fine running up the stairs. But if you decide to wait for the elevator instead, you’ll smash that door close button until the doors finally close.

SUMMARY:
– Transport authorities sometimes switch off the functionality of these traffic buttons on purpose. In New York, for example, there are 1,000 of them, but currently only 100 actually work when you press them.
– Such buttons have an important psychological effect: doing something feels better than not doing anything. When you press the button at a crossing, you feel more assured that the light will eventually switch to green.
– Not to disrupt the work of the whole network, many of the traffic control switches were turned into placebo buttons.
– The elevator doors will stay open for no less than the time appointed to them, no matter how much or how long you mash that button.
– So unless you’re an emergency service worker or just happen to know the override code, you won’t be able to make the doors close faster.
– If you live outside the US, though, your chances of getting a working close button are much higher. In many countries, there are no such strict regulations, so you can easily find an elevator where, if you press the door close button, the doors will actually shut immediately.
– Most office buildings have a central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system (HVAC for short). And the thing about this central system is that you can’t actually affect it from anywhere outside the control center.
– In fact, there are two general types of office thermostats: one that is total placebo and one that is only partially so.
– The partial placebo thermostat has a little bit of sway: it can change a couple degrees in both directions, but no more than that.
– Whenever you download a file from the Internet or install a new app on your device, you see a bar that informs you of how much time you have left to wait. Ever seen it stuck at 99% for, like, forever, though? Yeah, it’s exactly what it seems: the progress bar is always wildly inaccurate.
– When you run, you burn calories for sure, but the precise amount depends on various factors, such as your weight, overall fitness, and body fat percentage.
– This counter is, once again, only there to assure you that you’re doing everything right. The downside of this is that even if you’re not doing it right, the treadmill won’t let you know.
– When a call attempt failed, the system didn’t tell the caller about it, but simply switched to another recipient instead. So when somebody took the phone on the other end of the line, you apologized for dialing a wrong number and tried again. This way, you didn’t feel the frustration of having a failed call.

Stop Doing These 15 Things in Other Countries

Every country has its own laws, traditions, rules, and specific features that might seem weird to the people of other cultures. So when going on a trip, you’d better learn information about the etiquette rules and traditions of the country you’re going to visit. For example, you can’t buy or sell chewing gum in Singapore. And that’s just one of many places that have things you should never do and that totally go against what might be normal for you or me.

SUMMARY:
– In Italy, it’s considered uncouth to order white coffee – or any coffee made with milk – after breakfast time. This is because traditionally in Italy, drinking milk after a meal is thought to be bad for digestion.
– In Japan, great customer service is the normal standard, not something a waiter can just choose to do if they want a little extra money.
– You can’t buy or sell chewing gum in Singapore. This ban started back in 1992 as a way to clean up Singapore’s streets, movie theatres, schools, and parks.
– The saguaro cactus is Arizona’s official state flower. Don’t cut it down, unless you wanna face up to a 25-year prison sentence.
– Unless you’re on or somewhere near the sandy beaches of Barcelona, wearing a bikini is a huge no-no in this colorful Catalonian city.
– Gobbling up every last morsel on your plate isn’t necessarily illegal in China, but it is considered somewhat rude.
– If you’re fighting a cold, allergies, or just some really bitter winter winds, sometimes blowing your nose in public just has to happen. But if you’re in France, try to make it to the bathroom before you blow that honker of yours.
– In Australia, hopping into the backseat instead of the front passenger seat is pretty rude. Basically, you’ll look like a snob who wants to be chauffeured in stark silence instead of making small talk with the driver up front.
– Giving someone a dozen roses or flowers in even numbers is considered a major faux pas in Russia because even-numbered flower bouquets are usually present at funerals.
– In India, using your left hand while exchanging money, handing over food, or shaking a person’s hand is considered incredibly rude and, well, really gross.
– Feeding pigeons some breadcrumbs may seem harmless, but doing this in Venice can set you back anywhere from 70-700 bucks if you’re caught!
– You definitely don’t want to be caught wearing camouflage in several of the Caribbean Islands. It’s because their police officers wear camo.
– Don’t step on money in Thailand. On baht, you’ll find the face of the country’s reigning monarch. Stepping on these faces is a big no-no here and is considered demeaning to the royal family.

This Huge Volcano Is Due to Erupt – What If It Happened Today

This Huge Volcano Is Due to Erupt – What If It Happened Today

What would happen if Vesuvius Volcano erupted today? It’s erupted many times in the past. In fact, that’s how it got its shape. It’s made of multiple layers of hardened lava, pumice, and ash. Vesuvius last erupted in 1944. But a major blast happened there nearly 2,000 years ago. It buried the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum and decimated the surrounding areas.

The tragic eruption have left a deep mark in modern history. Mount Vesuvius is regarded as one of the deadliest volcanos in the human history. But today, 3 million people live less than 20 milesfrom the volcano, and 600,000 live in the danger zone. Large eruptions happen every few thousand years, usually after long periods of calm. And the trouble is, Vesuvius is long overdue for its next one…

12 Personal Hygiene Mistakes We Make Every Day

12 Personal Hygiene Mistakes We Make Every Day

Most people like to take care of themselves and practice good personal hygiene. But there are a few serious mistakes that we make on a daily basis that prevent us from being truly healthy. What are they and what should we do instead? Let’s find out together!
Research shows that most people stop biting their nails only by age 30 if not older. Sometimes nail biting can be triggered by emotional or mental stress and used as a way to deal with these feelings. However, nail biting does nothing good for your appearance.
Cotton swabs used for cleaning ears can damage the eardrum and cause hearing loss and other ear-related problems. Try using olive oil instead. Research shows that after using the restroom, the average person has about 200 million bacteria per square inch on their hands. So if you don’t wash them away, they stay right there and eventually make their way into your body.
Using the same toothbrush for longer than 2-3 months can result in some serious health problems, including heart disease. So don’t brush your teeth with a bacteria-infested toothbrush and change it often. Your tooth brush can’t possibly reach every nook and cranny, so that’s where flossing comes in. It’ll remove the hard-to-reach bacteria that, if left where they are, can lead to cavities, tooth loss, and gingivitis. Recent studies by the American Dentist Association are now saying that fluoride is actually quite dangerous for your health. Research shows that it’s especially detrimental to children’s dental health.

SUMMARY
-Your fingers and nails are covered in bacteria that make their way into your body through your mouth when you chew at your nails.
-The Q-tip can end up just pushing excess wax deeper into your ear, which does more harm than good.
-Scrubbing your hands clean after using the restroom is the best and easiest way to prevent yourself from getting sick.
-The bristles of your toothbrush collect tons of bacteria over time, usually just within a month, actually. Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush every 2-3 months.
-Dentists recommend brushing your teeth in small circular motions for 2 minutes straight. Make sure to get along the inside and outside surfaces of your teeth, and don’t forget to brush your tongue.
-Make an effort to floss after every meal or at least before you brush your teeth to keep your gums in good condition, too.
-Over-exfoliating can wreak havoc on your poor skin. It causes more acne and wrinkles, both of which nobody wants on their face.
-Pay attention to all the surfaces you put your hands on every day and remember to wipe them down with antibacterial wipes from time to time.
-Fluoride toothpaste can cause crumbling of the teeth and even increase the absorption aluminum in the brain, which contributes to Alzheimer’s Disease.
-If you’re sleeping on a cotton pillowcase, you could end up looking much older than you are because this material dries out your skin, which leads to premature wrinkling.
-The best way to eliminate most of the bacteria is to steam clean your carpets.
-When the toenail is cut too short, the pressure from walking forces the nail to grow into the skin of your toe.

Why Skipping Rope Could Help You Lose Weight Faster Than Running

Why Skipping Rope Could Help You Lose Weight Faster Than Running

Why Skipping Rope Could Help You Lose Weight Faster Than Running. Skipping rope is a fun game when you’re a kid too, and you may even have mastered the elusive “double dutch” move. You may not skip very much these days, but it could be a great way to boost your exercise routine.

#SkippingRope #Exercise #HealthyLifestyle

Sources: https://pastebin.com/0c7aiAZr

Music:
https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music

Summary:
Studies conducted by researchers at Appalachian State University and East Carolina University compared participants running on a treadmill and skipping. They looked at how many calories were burned but also the stress each activity placed on the kneecap, or patella. They noted this as the “peak force” and it turns out that this peak force was 30 percent higher when running than skipping. Not to mention this same study found that skipping burned more calories in the same amount of time.

The reason jump rope is becoming a popular choice isn’t only due to the fact that you can possibly burn more calories in the same amount of time, but that you’ll also work out many muscle groups with low impact. LIVESTRONG says that when you work out with a jump rope your joints won’t get as stressed as they can while running. Your upper body will get a work out too! Including your wrists, elbows and shoulders. Not only that but your calves do the bulk and your ankles will receive a little attention, too. You can choose how fast or intense you skip, while also having the option of using a weighted rope to get even more out of your work out.

However The American Journal Of Epidemiology says that 30 minutes of activity, like jumping rope, can actually counteract the negative effects of sitting.

Not only can jumping rope combat our bad sitting habits, according to Harvard Medical School it can improve your heart health.

However, jumping rope, because of it’s high intensity, can be great for losing weight faster around your midsection. Jumping rope requires you to tighten your core and work out your ab muscles. Basically targeting your stomach and working those trunk muscles extra hard.

Get to sleep fast with a massage technique from the ancient Chinese healing art acupressure.

Warning
If you feel pain when using acupressure, stop immediately. Pregnant women should not use acupressure.

Step 1: Find the right spot
Locate the Spirit Gate acupressure point. It’s on the inside of the wrist crease, just to the inside of the tendon on the pinky finger side.

Tip
Manipulating Spirit Gate is believed to increase production of melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland that helps control sleep cycles.

Step 2: Massage it
Gently press and knead the point for one minute. Switch hands and repeat.

Step 3: Ease pain
To ease pain-induced insomnia, press your index fingers against the bottom of your skull, with your left finger about a half-inch to the left of your spine, and right finger a half-inch to the right of your spine. Hold for 30 seconds to a minute.

Step 4: Sleep soundly
Have sweet dreams!

How to unshrink a wool sweater. Your favorite sweater wound up in the dryer and is now only fit for a four-year-old? Fix it fast by doing the following.

You will need: Hair conditioner, a flat surface, and two towels.

Step one: Fill your bathroom sink with lukewarm water and 1/3 cup hair conditioner.

Step two: Add the sweater and let it soak for about 10 minutes to unlock the wool fibers.

Step three: Let the water drain, but don’t rinse out the sweater. When the sink is empty, gently press the sweater against the basin to remove any excess water. Do not wring it.

Step four: Lay the sweater out flat on an absorbent towel. Put another towel on top of it and press down on it hard to blot out as much water as you can. You can roll the sweater in a towel to remove excess water, as long as you straighten it out again quickly.

Step five: Stretch the sweater back into its original dimensions, known as blocking. This process pulls the unlocked wool fibers away from each other and back into the desired shape.

Step six: Allow it to air dry. Next time you wash it, keep it out of the dryer.

Did you know? Wool is both fire-resistant and, fiber-for-fiber, stronger than steel.

Step 1: Turn on the tap
Fill the top glass with ice water; the cold will make the glass molecules contract.

Tip
Add salt to the ice water to chill it faster.

Step 2: Switch to hot water
With the top glass still full of ice water, run hot water over the bottom glass, or place it in a few inches of hot water. The heat makes the bottom glass expand.

Step 3: Do the twist
Gently twist the two glasses; they should come apart easily.

Step 4: Adjust temperatures
Still stuck? Try colder water, or keep the bottom glass submerged in the hot water a little longer. Unsticking them can take anywhere from one to 10 minutes, depending on the glasses.
