I've always thought of "respect" as a short-term power where as things like trust and integrity are much more personable/fortifying. I some times wounder if people think that a world using respect as a measuring-stick is only strong until the next big thing comes along and knocks the leader off the pedestal and out of the hearts and minds of the intended.
