Ooo I learned this type of roads in school. I think they are called Woonerfs, but I might be wrong
We have these too in the Netherlands. My biggest pet peeve with these are the cyclists. You really need to be on the lookout if you don't want a collision as a pedestrian.
we have one of the original shared spaces not too far from where i live, it’s in Poynton
Dude, I've tripped on those curbs and broken my leg 😢 wish we had that in the 6ix
I’m currently getting my Master’s in Urban Planning, I really hope you make more videos like this! Super fascinating, I never even thought about flattening the sidewalks
I just realized I've never actually seen him outside
yearning,,, PINING FOR THIS EVEN
These are called "shared spaces" and I view them as lazy urban planning and really only suitable in areas with extremely low car traffic. A better alternative is to just make the street a pedestrian street.
It confuses the heck out of me as both a pedestrian and a driver who has used that road. I guess that’s the point – both parties are on higher alert with regard to others using the space.
The patterns on the road were read by my brain as like crosswalks, which could be a factor as well. I like this and hope it gets rolled out in more places with success. There’s one place near me that i think would be a great candidate, I’ll have to look into suggesting it
Newbie driver here and I think if I saw those cross lines I wouldn't be able to see if the surface was flat or not so I'd slow down to avoid jumping a curb.
The American stroad has been really quiet since this was posted….
They should just do this everywhere in London. I mean, it's London, were crossing every road wherever we want anyway.
a big thing I personally noticed was the boundary for pedestrians. There's a pedestrian only "sidewalk" area signified by the bumps for the visually impaired, and blocked off by trees so the cars couldn't get there if they wanted to. Keeps the squishy humans safer than if the cars could drive anywhere they wanted to.
This would never work in America 😅
Next do Amsterdam pls 😂
Same in Paris with place like La Republique
The Scotland-ahh road
Just realised they can now use electric cars to 'accidently run people over' if they use exibition roads
people might see this and think London is somewhat civilized… don't worry, everyone, the other 25000 roads are still a hostile shitshow
Didn't expect urban design content from him today – must be April Fools or somethin
You should come to Southall – we have a stretch of road like this, it's quite a different high street than others in London.
If only we could trust some people with their multi-fatality machines.
"Let cars and humans coexists in the same space"
Might aswell just let lions share an enclosure with bunnys with that logic.
